If you could change one thing that you’ve been doing to prevent you from the success you deserve, what would it be?

Focus. Pick ONE topic and dig deep.
That’s tough for me. I’m interested in most everything.

Don, I agree. Joe, you may want to try this: give yourself a 7-day intensive on one thing, then see where you are. You’ll likely either want to go deeper or move on, but you will know something about the topic, and probably be more aware of what you want to do.

For a start, none of us deserves to succeed.
Having said that, I need to work on self-discipline.

Self-discipline, which will enable me to focus.

I’m with you, Don. Interested in most things. Been that way all my life.
Had to force myself to focus on fewer and fewer things.
Still interested in a wide range of subjects, but I’ve learned how much energy I should give to each one.
That is an art.
It’s something that each of us has to discover for ourselves.

Hi Joe,
As for me I am too easily distracted. When I do manage to concentrate fully I try to take on too many projects at once, and flutter from one idea to another. End result…nothing, or very little, gets done.done. I need to focus and cut out the external noise of my burgeoning email box and the call of numerous Facebook group memberships.

I feel that the one thing I need to change is consistency. I get motivated to work hard on a project but then I don’t stick with it. I need to develop a plan and get in the habit of doing something for my business daily. I guess that involves developing stronger discipline and focus. I also need to map out where I’m going with my projects. I feel like I just sort of “drift” through things but never really concentrate on one goal.

Easy. It would have to be taking action. For the longest time, I spent my waking hours reading and watching tutorial after tutorial, deluding myself that all that learning was somehow building my business.
In reality, all I was doing was learning. Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing, but if you don’t act upon that knowledge, there’s no moving forward.
I remember a while ago, a person from whom I was studying said, “Stop learning and start earning.” That’s so true.

I’m totally in agreement with Bob. Learning is great BUT the best way to learn is to DO. You will never learn more than when you just start doing it and have to make adjustments.
And Sean is right in the initial training…start building a list. That is one I didn’t do for waaaaaaay to long. Start it right out of the gate.If you're looking for a someone to bounce things off of in the IM world, I'm your guy and I really would love to help you out. Helping others is just who I am!

Steve, you’re so right… our greatest training is found in actually doing it. We may not be perfect, but by actually doing it, we can see what it is that we need to improve on in order to do it better next time. Do this again and again and you’ll see that your business begins to actually make you money.

Diana,
One thing that I think will help you is if you identify in advance some small goals.
The stuff we all are working on is fairly long-term, and that makes progress harder to see.
It’s a bit like standing on the edge of a roaring river trying to figure out how to get across. Instead of trying to build a bridge, we need small stepping stones.
When you see yourself achieving small goals, then you’ll reach a point where the big goal doesn’t seem so far away.
And when that happens, you’ll have no trouble sticking with it.
Does that sound like something you could do?

Claire,
I can’t take credit for that quote. It’s just something I was taught a long time ago by a very well-respected marketer. It’s kind of become my mantra.
I love acquiring knowledge. As a teacher, it’s in my blood.
As a marketer, it doesn’t work the same. That’s probably been the biggest object lesson for me. I have to separate the day job from the marketing job.
Hey, I’m getting there.

Relentlessly focus on my one thing, first each day.
I usually do it . . .
But sometimes I drift.
And am not always relentless . . .
For me, that would close a big gap . .

There aren’t enough hours in the day to do it all, Norma. And the thing is that it’s not the best use of your time, either.
Figure out what will give you the biggest bang for the time spent, and pursue it.

A good question to ask yourself, Malik, is, “What one thing can I do that is most likely to contribute to my bottom line?”
Email rarely will.
Unless people contact you directly to discuss buying something from you, like they do with me, email is something that you can leave for later.
Marketing and product creation are the only two “right” answers.
Start with those.

I think the biggest thing I need to change is prioritizing my work time over family,(structured time for both) but am working on this now and starting to see the difference.
