    I thought I would put up some information here about the key components of a great squeeze page and also some tools you can use to help you along the way. Sorry this is going to be a long post but I don’t want to give you half the story πŸ™‚

    A squeeze page / optin form is a quick call to action for that is used to collect contact details. It is not a pop up or lead magnet that you are sending visitors to who have already read an article or been on your site, these can be less detailed as the visitor is already interested. Many times a squeeze page as described below can be used for these as well.

    If you are doing a squeeze page that you are sending people to from an ad, an email campaign, solo ads etc. You need to give them more.

    The components are:
    1. Attention-grabbing headline – and maybe a sub headline
    2. Eye Catching Image or Photo
    3. Bullet point summary of benefits (not features)
    4. A sentence to tell the people what to do next
    5. Optin Form With Name And Email Fields
    6. Clear Call to Action Button
    7. Privacy Policy statement

    1. Attention-grabbing headline – and maybe a sub headline

    The headline must catch your visitors attention instantly. It must make them want to find out more. It needs to stand out visually by using a bigger, bolder typeface, maybe even a different colour. The headline must be relevant to the audience you are trying to attraction and it should address or even solve a key problem, issue or challenge they are facing.

    2. Eye Catching Image or Photo

    The old saying a picture is worth a thousand words is true πŸ™‚ You want to have a picture of your product that makes them want to pick it and buy it (If you are doing a free products it gives it instant credibility) It needs to have a compelling or appealing cover design or a picture that relates to the issue. By offering it in 3D form you not only add interest, you are simulating the tangible feeling of your product and this makes it more appealing.

    https://www.fiverr.com/ has quite a few people who will make a cover and convert it to 3D for you (I can give recommendation if needed). Also there are programs online you can use. Canva.com for book design and https://www.myecovermaker.com/ (only $5 per cover or monthly subscription if doing a lot of covers)

    3. Bullet point summary of benefits (not features)

    Tell your visitor how this gift will help them, how is will change their life, business or something for the better. Keep it short and sweet, a sentence with a few bullets points works best. The want to know in as few words as you possibly can, Why do I care, What’s in it for me, How will it help me and Why should I take the time to give you my details?

    Search Google for examples of good and bad squeeze pages to help you get a feel for it.

    4. A sentence to tell the people what to do next

    So now you have their attention you need to tell them what to do. Don’t forget to use the word FREE in your sentence. By simply saying “put your name and email in the box below for instant access to your FREE ebook” or something similar makes the visitor feel compelled to do something. You have given them an actionable task to do after capturing their attention and this leads to more signups.

    5. Optin Form With Name And Email Fields

    So now you are going to capture their information and give them a way to collect that promised ebook, report etc. You have several options you can ask for Name and Email or Email Only and you can do double optin or single optin (your email service provider will have recommendation on single or double optins).
    Keep in mind that the more information you ask for, the fewer sign ups you will receive. When you have established trust, you can always offer more free gifts and ask for additional information in that opt-in.

    6. Clear Call to Action Button

    So you have got them this far so make sure you CTA button is not dull and has the word “submit” on it. Make it compelling for your visitor to take action. Make it a bold colour, replace the word submit with something like Sign Me Up!, Get Instant Access, Send My Free Gift something that relates to what is going to happen next.

    7. Privacy Policy statement

    Always add one, it can be as simple as * We hate spam just as much as you do and that we won’t share your information with anyone else, or *We Hate Spam and won’t share your information. Keep in simple, make it small under the cta button and make it install confidence in you.

    Thanks for taking the time out to do this for us.

    I will certainly be copying and pasting it into a handy file for my own reference. And I will also use it as concise reference for all those who need to be reminded of why those fundamental principles exist.

    Great post. The only thing I would probably change is the name field. I’ve found greater success asking for just the email address. The fewer hoops to jump through. . .

      Hi Bob thanks for the comment I agree that’s why I said to ask for name and email or just email, and then ask for more later. I have had better success in IM with email only but in the natural therapies niche it was better with both name and email. So its all about testing πŸ™‚
