Just putting this out there. Udemy seems to do a far amount of promoting of its courses. Has anyone used Udemy as a traffic source?

Maybe a free course with links to additional free material on your website?

I have heard their terms of service are tough.

I haven’t used them personally, but I can’t help but think that it’s one more possibility.

    It’s only that, however.

    You can’t do everything.

    You can’t dominate every platform.

Thing to do is to pick one and then master it.

And then when you’ either got that one under control or know that it’s not the place for you, then move onto a second one.

Jan I saw that earlier and couldn’t find it when I looked for it.
We are piling up a pretty good stack of stuff here.

I couldn’t find Carol’s post, but I did find her Udemy link. She’s had 10K students.

    Way to go, Carol.

Just saw this thread. I do have over 10 courses on Udemy and as Bruce said, a number of students from all over the world. That’s the best part, people have found me that otherwise wouldn’t have known I existed.

Udemy is very strict about not promoting outside of their platform except on your bonus lecture, which is your last one. There you can link to your other sites and I have had students come and opt-in to my own list.

Udemy owns the list, but you can email your students from within it and promote your other Udemy courses.

I have had private clients come to me as a result of some of my Udemy courses as well, so it’s been a good platform for me. Plus I make a little bit of money from Udemy after they take their share.

I agree, Bruce… you’ve got to focus. It’s so easy to go all over the place, isn’t it?

    Wise quote from Bruce:

Carol, your courses look wonderful! You have definitely mastered the Udemy platform. As limiting as Udemy is, you have proven that it can be such an invaluable marketing tool. I have bookmarked your Udemy page for future reference!

If you are wired to teach, Udemy makes a lot of sense. Or at least a course platform makes sense.

I certainly am wired like a teacher. When I looked into that idea a couple of years ago, I decided to go with Teachable for a course platform. You don’t get the promotion, but you own your material.

    one idea to add:

    when you can’t actively promote . . . .

you can make sure that if someone googles you, they can get to you fast

and often you can make course material or links available using your site (correct me if I’m wrong and can’t do that at Udemy)

so that gets folks to your site . .

and of course then you have a widget or popup on that page that offers folks a freebie 🙂
