If you read a lot, then like me you encounter a variety of pithy sayings that are worth remembering.

The purpose of this “question” is to provide of place for them to go.

Let’s share the wisdom that we encounter this year.

Here’s one to get you started. It’s quoted by Mark Batterson in his book If.

In it he refers to something the Thomas Carlyle, a 19th century Scottish polyglot said.

“Our main business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what lies clearly at hand” (p. 160).

    Here’s one:

“Occasionally, a good idea comes to you first, if you’re lucky. Usually, it only comes after a lot of bad ideas.” – Alex Blumberg as published in Tools of Titans by Tim Ferris.

I like a quote by Abraham Lincoln when he said,

The best way to predict the future is to create it.

Soooooo true in our business and in life in general!

Here’s one I came across in a post by Benjamin P Hardy, the author with the most articles on Medium. He’s quoting Viktor Frankl.

Don’t aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one’s surrender to a person other than oneself.

For our business I think a quote by Bill Tracy is very appropriate…

When you have absolute clarity about what you want and how you’re going to get it, you’re able to focus on what’s important so you get more things done in less time.

Your past contains mistakes, and struggles and failures.

And sometimes those failures hold us back from DOING more in the future – and then hogtie us from success.

But if we leave that past behind and ask ourselves how we can create a new future . . .

what could you create this year if you leave the shadows of the past behind?

What a great thread. Concerning your quote Sean, I’ve heard it called “clean-slate” thinking and have attended a seminar several past-year’s Decembers where we plan out the upcoming year while leaving the failures of the past behind.

This gives you free reign to map out where you want to go without old limitations.

    Deep Work

“The ability to perform deep work is becoming increasingly rare at exactly the same time it is becoming increasingly valuable in our economy” (Cal Newport, Deep Work, p. 14, italics author’s).
