Preneurs Helping Preneurs Get Noticed

Use Software That Works for You

What software should you use for optimizing your campaigns? I’m frequently asked that, so I’m just going to share with you some of the software that I use for optimization of tracking and split testing and that kind of thing.

Most of the software that I use is pretty simple. I use a piece of software that is really good at split testing, and that’s all I use it for.

I use something else for tracking visitors.

I use something else for tracking email conversions.

There is software out there that will do everything for you. I’ve found that using a software that claims it can do 100 different things gets cumbersome – it slows my sites down. I have a large volume of traffic and 3 or 4 elements that need to be tracked in what I’m doing. So things slow down and it’s difficult to get reports. Yes, the report has all the information in one place. But, realistically (for me), I can log into 4 different dashboards in 4 minutes, and get the 4 critical pieces of information.

I write down the important numbers, and I have my own handwritten dashboard right here. Plus, it’s not as complex – it has what I really need.

If you’re running a big business, and you’ve got a dedicated “complexity person,” and you’ve got the volume to support that, hey, go ahead with the complexity.

Again this is not a training on choosing the very best way to split test. Or on what’s the very best software to split test. It’s not about what’s the very best software for tracking. That’s not what this is about.

What this is about is what I do.

One of the things that I’ve found is that there are somewhere around 1000 different pieces of software to do each one of the things that I’m going to talk about.

I don’t use the one I use because it’s necessarily the best.

It’s the best out of the 10 or 15 that I’ve studied, or many of the things I’ve done trials with. I’ve tried other software, and I just didn’t like the way it worked. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t like a better piece of software. I’m using the one that works best for me.

Let me tell you something funny that happens almost every time I share this kind of training…

…I’ll get a slew of comments or emails telling me that there’s a software out there that does whatever it is that I do, and it does it better. And that they use it and like it. I just have to laugh.

That software works better for you. The thing is, if the software that I’m using is working well for me, you couldn’t pay me $25k to switch to something that’s going to cost me more time and energy to kind of figure it all out – not when I’ve got something that works exactly the way that I want it to work. Even if I may be paying more for it, honestly.

Now, obviously I’m just throwing that $25k number around.

Obviously, I kind of throw around numbers – $25k, $100k. That’s an exaggeration – the idea is if you’re already using something that you like, DON’T SWITCH! Please don’t switch. Use what’s working for you. But if you’re thinking, “I really want to know what they use in that business. That’s what this is all about. This is really designed to be something personal about what I use.”

This isn’t designed to be “This is THE best way to do it.” It’s just one way
