I am looking into branching out into the visual and image traffic methods.

Anyone have an experience that would steer me toward Pinterest or Instagram over the other?

I think cross promoting your content is an effective way to get noticed.

Pinterest has been drawing surprising traffic for me, Scott. There are pro’s and cons to both. I’ve an article coming out soon that may be of interest. When it’s live, I’ll post the url here. Not sure where it will be published yet.

Don, that is great information. I would certainly be interested in the article. I would trust anything someone said in this group ten times over what we see in the general internet buzz.

It’s just a basic info article for a client, Scott. I paid someone else to write it. I need to edit and get it up.

Looking forward to that article, Don.

I don’t understand either platform very well, and I can’t see how they’re relevant for what we’re doing.

    Scott,

I’m glad you brought this up here. I’m currently in the process of starting some image-related marketing campaigns. I got involved very recently with a product that does just that, and I have to tell you, I’m pretty excited about it.

I don’t want to throw out any product names here as I don’t want this to seem like some sort of shameless promotion since that’s not the spirit of this site.

I can tell you it focuses more on Pinterest than Instagram, but I can see it certainly would work well on both. I’ve gone through the program, and I’m ready to implement it. I will keep you and anyone else interested in my progress. If it works well, I’ll certainly let you know.

I would be happy to let you, or anyone else, know what the program is, and I’m not an affiliate for it (not yet, anyway :-)).

    Pinterest is 70% female.
Instagram is more evenly represented among men and women.

Pinterest does not use internal filters for your photos (you have to use canva or a similar site to apply filters). While Instagram does have internal filters.

Pinterest is more about content curation. Pinterest focuses on going viral. You can only save or repin, a pin you are looking at. Instagram is more conversational you can ask for comments and feedback.

Every pin is an external link to another site, on Instagram you only have one link and that is in your bio.

Following on from what Malik said I was reading a good blog post social sprout the other day that talks about the demographic of social media platforms. This may help in deciding if its worth looking at a platform be seeing if it targets your demographics.

It was written in March of this year and at least a place to start https://sproutsocial.com/insights/new-social-media-demographics/

Why not do both, allow them to support each other?
