I always loved listserv and subscribing to the topics that I was most interested in… still on a few Yahoo lists. But everyone is very focused on just one micro-topic that way and the messages are all archived and searchable and you can opt to receive every message or just a weekly digest or not at all but hit the archives once in a while.
Some way of adapting that idea here might be interesting but technologically I´m not sure how.
