I have also heard that Tuesdays should be avoided, and I’ve noticed that Wednesdays seem to be popular for launches as well.

While I like the idea of researching the market and other products, I have to say that it is just as important that you figure out what makes you unique in the marketplace. The more unique you are and the more value you bring to the table, the higher the prices you can command.

I’ll give you a personal example. A few months ago I was helping someone who was getting started in blogging and writing emails. When she kept asking for more help, I gave her my rates. When I calculated the effort I put into what I did for her (email writing), I realized I had underpriced the project. Not only because of the effort, but because when I am writing or editing for someone else, I can’t write for myself. When I completed that project, I increased all my rates to reflect my knowledge and decades of experience as a writer, as well as the opportunity cost of writing for someone else.

Information products are different, yes. But don’t automatically participate in the race to the bottom, especially if you are in the IM niche. Yes, people will buy a $7 product more quickly than a $27 product, but if they see value in what you have, you should still see some sales.

Brainstorming ideas of one person in your niche, the problems that person has, and what he/she would likely search for online would be good ways to start coming up with ideas. Once you’ve done that, you should be able to identify what to search for on Google.

For example, for self help – there are many people who are interested in self-help. If your niche is married couples (just choosing something out of the air), and you think of the problems married couples might have – disagreements, money, in-law issues, porn addiction – to name a few, then you can start looking for fora that deal with these things. I just did a quick search and there are porn addiction fora as well as broad-based marriage fora.

If you have a keyword tool, that may be helpful as well. But I think your first step is to figure out who your ideal customer would be and go from there.

    Hope that helps.

    This is a great question!

Elaine, how often do you send out your newsletters?

Statistics that I have seen suggest that live webinars or hybrid webinars (recorded webinars with the host standing by to field questions as they come in) do better in terms of getting signups than recorded webinars do.

There are also statistics that say that many people do watch replays of live webinars (which of course, are recorded). From what I gather, people will sign up more often for a live event even if they know they won’t be able to attend live. There’s always the chance that the technology for the recording may not work, after all. A recorded webinar, however, doesn’t have that component of the unknown technical issues, so that could account for the signups being less.

From everything I have read, it is suggested that you do your live webinars at least a few times before starting to utilize recorded ones on a large scale.

All that being said, many of the big guys and gals of the internet marketing world use recorded webinars, and I personally enjoy trying to figure out if the event is live, recorded or a hybrid. 😉

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Norma and Melody,

    Nice to meet you!

Melody, I wouldn’t be starting with a whole new niche; it’s just that I do have some friends who could use the info and who I could probably use as a sounding board for the idea.

I don’t currently have a list, but I do have many homeschooling friends.

I don’t know if that information is helpful, but I thought I would include it to clarify. 😉

What is your niche, Scott? As far as I understand and have heard, LinkedIn may not not appropriate for all niches.

    Elaine,

Are you trying to merge in terms of website domains, or in terms of membership platforms? What is your sticking point, so we can best help?

    Thanks, Sean.

I post from experience. I am still working on getting consistent with my blog posts.

Aha… I have not heard of those. I just recently bought Andrew Hunter’s Membersonic Pro. It is a WP plugin. The folks I use for my themes and other things WP use Member Mouse, which is another plugin, which seems to work well also.

    Bryan,

I think a daily email would be great if you can do it. I’ve heard that one of the things about YouTube is consistency, so before you commit, you may want be sure you can keep up. If not, maybe you could pick one or two days that you will do a video for, and stick to those days.

I agree with Don re doing video. Although I love video, I don’t always feel like doing what I feel I need to, to look good enough on camera (as judged by me).

I’d say go for it, and keep us posted on how it works for you!
