Great thread!
Leslie,
Of all you wrote, this sentence resonated with me the most: “Sitting in front of, and hiding behind, a computer screen for the last 12 years has depleted both my quality of vocal communication and my confidence in general. Not to mention my empty wallet.”
Many people scoff at the idea of attending local networking events and Meetups. Are there any events in your local area? I’ll share with you why I’m such a huge proponent of attending networking events…and of course, you need to be selective. That takes time. Another thing is that you do not have to join for a fee to experience success. Please allow me to share my story. I’ll be as brief as I can.
In 2009 I joined Business Network International as a paid member. Very expensive with lots of rules. I got nothing from it. Same year I joined the Chamber of Commerce and got very little from it. One thing those memberships did was to make me realize that small businesses needed and wanted to be online to get their message out to a larger audience but did not know what to do.
I then took a number of online classes in Local Business Consulting, became a Social Media Manager/Small Business Consultant, etc. Honestly I spent a lot of money that I did not need to as many of the things I’d learned through my Online Marketing courses, but I did not know that.
Where could I meet these people? I searched Meetup for business groups in my area, and there were tons of them. I started attending, sharing little tips in my 60-second introduction and gaining people’s trust. I then found someone in one of the groups who was an expert on SEO, Reputation Management (things I’d learned in my expensive courses), and we partnered together. He focused on those. I focused on Customer Service/Relationship Marketing and LinkedIn training ONLY. Together we did free workshops. Because the Know, Like and Trust factor was built up, when I offered paid workshops (offline), they were filled. I started my own Meetup and when I launched my first 4-week LinkedIn training online, 95% of the people who attended were from my Meetup Group and people I met in networking offline.
Attending a networking group led me to the Health Care Agency that paid me the largest amount for my Social Media Marketing services and was my longest paying client. Lots of word of mouth referrals came my way as well.
Leslie, I feel your pain because I moved back to live in Jamaica for two years and my husband and I returned here (in the US) for various reasons. I’ve not resumed active networking and see a difference. It is possible to make connections and get clients online, but I personally found it much each to connect with people face to face. Could it be the same for you?
You mentioned you need a certain amount of money to proceed with a particular venture.
1) What skills do you already have that you can offer to someone that they would pay you for?
2) What life experience do you have that would put you one step on the ladder above someone
else so you can pull them up beside you by paying you to teach them?
3) If you have specific skills, have you ever visited Upwork.com to see if people are offering
that service or require that service?
4) Are there networking groups in your area you could visit and start making connections. Go
with a focus on helping others knowing that the Law of Reciprocity often comes into play? I know,
you mentioned some discouraging experiences in the forum. I’m sorry to hear that. Unfortunately,
that happens all over.
5) Take the time to recapture your ‘voice’ and rebuild your confidence. Start slowly, but start.I may be totally off-base, but was impelled to share my story in the hope that it will inspire
you to get away from your computer. If you’d like to, please brainstorm with us. Sometimes what we take for granted is truly
valuable to someone else.Warm wishes,

Knowing that I brought value to at least one person and help them to experience a
breakthrough in something that was stopping them from moving forward. It could be
personal or could be business. For example, In business it may be a limiting belief or it may be a lack of systems in their
business that keep them stuck and prevent them from moving forward. When the person
gets supported and tells me the difference it has made, and the actions they’ll take,
that makes makes the day a success for me.Are you ready to leverage client relationships and grow your business quickly?

I agree with the comments above, especially the fact that regardless how much time we spend on social media, we do not own the platforms. They’re all like little cottages we would rent to spend some time. And it can be really useful quality time, but they’re not ours. We don’t own them. Our home on internet is our own hosted website and our blog allows visitors a place to enjoy getting to know us, ask us questions – engage with us. We get an opportunity to educate them, provide value, possibly transform their lives and also learn from the responses they give us.
Blog circles are great to form as participants comment on content, share links and generally help to increase engagement, but it’s time-consuming. There are also groups on Facebook, for example, that have specific days you can share your blog content and at times several members will comment on and share your Links.
One of the things I discovered is that more people visit my blog than leave comments. An example of this is just two days ago someone thanked me on Facebook for reminding her of the importance of focus, which she read on my blog. I would not have known as she did not leave a comment. We just never know who we’ll have an impact on.

Fantastic job, Julie! I like how specific you are in each area, and
absolutely loved how you included congratulating yourself.Too often we forget to reward ourselves or praise ourselves for a job
done well. It’s a need we all have, and since we are our own boss, we
have to do it for ourselves. This is a great reminder for me as well. Thank you.

I work very well with both men and women. In fact, one of my best
testimonials, when my focus was on social media management and
teaching social media, is from a man. He tells everyone who’ll
listen that had I not taught him how to use LinkedIn and then almost
forced him to get on Facebook, he would not have reconnected with
his college girlfriend. Now they’ve been married for almost four years.Over a period of years though, I found that the women I coached and
mentored were mostly 50 and above. I am my ideal client. Earlier
this year I made the decision to focus of women 50 and wiser. It does
not mean that I wont coach or mentor men. However, my message can be
more tailored towards my target market instead of a broad-based
coaches, online marketers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners. Are you ready to leverage client relationships and grow your business quickly?

Years ago I worked for a huge import company in the business district in downtown Ft.Lauderdale, Fl.
What I discovered gave me a huge appreciation for packaging, branding, marketing, etc. Just one example.
This company only imported merchandise from their factories, as well as other factories, in the Orient.
The merchandise was shipped them to huge chain stores and pharmacy chains in huge containers delivered
to their Port of Entry. The Company had a huge Merchandising Department and multiple showrooms in the
building where Buyers would visit and make their selection. As I got to understand the business, I realized that many items, like dishes, cups etc. that were ordered
for various low-price chain stores were made in the same factories from which goods were manufactured and shipped
to some well-known upscale chain stores. Many times the only difference was that the upscale chain stores had their branding placed on the items during
manufacture and when they were displayed in their stores, the consumer felt they were getting a quality
product because of where they purchased the item.Depending on our market and niche, many times there is very little you may be able to do with the topic itself.
However, each of us has the opportunity to bring our personality, the wisdom gained over the years, our life
experiences that can enhance the knowledge we share-our PERSONAL BRAND-and how we organize the training we deliver.
We can make a somewhat boring topic fun. We can enhance the value of our cup of coffee so that, while it’s not as
well known as the $4 coffee, once people taste it, they tell their friends…because it’s just so good! Are you ready to leverage client relationships and grow your business quickly?

My first income online was a check from Clickbank in 2009 for $101+.
I was promoting a product for Type 2 diabetes and it took a few
months to meet the $100 threshold. I kept a copy of that check in my
office until I moved back to Jamaica in 2015. I may still have it in

Perhaps it’s just me but I have a challenge in getting to the various headings/topics. I allocate a certain amount of time to spend here and I was struggling to get around so would read and leave. My work-around is to click on one person’s comment under the thread and take it from there.
Is there a way to make the main headings clickable from the Home Page? Thanks!

Many of us have been following you and working with you for a while; others not
as long. It’s great to know that there’s a community that we as Solopreneurs can
turn to for feedback.I am willing to support others in giving an opinion on a Landing Page, on a website,
or any “How To’s” that I have knowledge and experience in confident that if I need
that kind of support I’ll find it here.On the Personal Development side, mindset and beliefs can hold us back from moving
forward. On the Business Growth side, not having a strategy and systems can be just
as paralyzing. I commit to offering 3 complimentary “Double Your Results”
Strategy Sessions per month to members of this community who wish to take me up on
the offer. If there are more specific ways, I’m open to hearing. Are you ready to leverage client relationships and grow your business quickly?

Great question, Scott. I recently read an article which suggests that the main value of recorded webinars is that people have a lot more options on when they watch (at their convenience) and because of that the marketer has more opportunity to get sign-ups or sales.
In my opinion, it depends on the market – who your target audience is. And the numbers. The number of people on your list and how many people are helping to promote your webinar. If your reach is smaller, specific time webinars may bring a lot better results, especially if you allow your audience to interact with you and develop a relationship.

Hi Scott,
I read your reply twice because you covered many areas. Loved how you answered giving different strategies, some of
which have worked for you, while noting the pros and cons as you went along. The Earl Nightingale method can still
work, I believe, but in a world where we’re pulled in so many directions, it would need to be tightened up a bit.
You also spoke to whether one may want to stick to what they wrote down. Therein lies one of the challenges – mindset.I too like to write it down but no longer do my 6 most important things to do list as I was taught many years ago. My
focus is on what are the three priority tasks I must do in order to get closer to my goals. I adopted this from Sean’s
training and find that to be more effective.Thank you for your feedback.

This is why I believe we should avoid accounting for every waking moment, and
give ourselves room for the unexpected. Otherwise it leads to frustration and
anxiety.Thank you for your feedback. Hope you get to bed on time tonight! 🙂
