    Bruce, a couple of thoughts:

You can create a short survey in Survey Monkey and post a link in your ebook toward the front of the book, in exchange for a cheat sheet, worksheet or video. I’d make it open-ended, but short – 1-2 questions only. Get the flavor of the words they use, and incorporate them in your marketing materials. Remember this about surveys — the more they write, typically the more frustrated they are, and you can learn a lot from those responses. So don’t limit them to something like “25 words or less” in their responses. Then connect 1:1 with them if they are willing. Even if they don’t hire you, they may recommend you to someone else based on the relationship you can build with them.

I haven’t researched this, but my sense is that there is often a correlation between reading and writing, based on years of teaching international business courses to both domestic and international students. So think about promoting your service through audio and video channels. That is also likely to help you with people for whom English is not a first language, or those who did not excel in reading and writing in school.

And last, do you want to cook and serve the fish, or do you want to teach people how to fish? You may be able to create a coaching program or a course based on what you find out from surveys and conversations.

I use Facebook for 2 reasons: groups and pages. If you want exposure, get involved in large groups and post often. Groups are a great way to leverage exposure and build relationships. And business pages help to build authority, if you post to them regularly.

Facebook is under tremendous pressure to produce earnings, and for that reason I am sure that this new algorithm is designed to drive revenue higher in some way. All the major social platforms are just businesses, and are primarily run in ways that benefit their bottom lines. As long as you remember that, and find the pieces of the platforms that can benefit you, social platforms can be useful tools.

I’ve just started using Lumen 5, which converts text like blog posts into video with images and music. There is a free version, and it’s pretty easy to use.

Julia, you can target your marketing to specific genders, or other target segments, but you don’t control how people will respond, or who you might attract based upon a specific message. If you want to target a specific gender, either because it is the business model you want to follow or because you think it is a better marketing decision, then you should do it. You are not likely to be as successful if you are trying to work with customers that you feel are not a good fit with you. You are just defining your niche along gender lines, as opposed to some other demographic characteristics.

I follow several people who primarily target women, but they have male customers as well. Seam has recommended following two of them, Lisa Sasevich and Kendall Summerhawk. You might get on their lists and see what they are doing. If you are looking for a male-specific recommendation, Sean can probably give you suggestions.

Julie, you might just casually ask what happens when a customer searches for them online to find out their hours, or to get a phone number, or to look at a menu, and their site is down? I would hope they see that as a problem, and it’s always interesting to hear the answer. Usually opens the door pretty quickly.

I have a blog, but I’m using it to link to content I’m creating on other sites. I’m finding it much easier when they are generating my traffic for me. They are helping me build my visibility in the market, and I love that leverage and the implied credibility they add. I’m keeping the original content in case I ever have to re-create the postings on my blog, but so far, this is working. And I’m using multiple formats of the same content so that if I lose content on one site, I’ll still have it on others.

Julie, if we had a LIKE button, you’d get my vote! I don’t know if this will help, but the single most important thing I did was find a mentor to help me when I got stuck, and to keep me accountable. I’m sure you can find several in this group. Good luck!

Yes, I use slideshare as part of a system of posting. I create Linkedin publishing article, which also serves as the transcript for a YouTube video with PPT slides; PPT to slideshare; post a link to the Linkedin article on my blog (AuthorityMarketingMastery.com); YT video repurposed on Facebook Live using a free software called Xsplit; infographic created + posted on Facebook to 1 group (Authority Marketing Mastery) + on 2 pages (Authority Marketing Mentor + Authority Mentor). In a normal week, I spread the content posting on social media so that I post a link to something every day to the group and the pages.

Slideshare is part of the repurposing chain.

If you use canva (http://www.canva.com), you can access free images through its search bar. Then you can use Lunapic’s editor (https://www140.lunapic.com/editor/) to make dozens of changes. I’ve used these two tools together to create most of my images and graphics.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I’m adding this thread to my “favorites” so I can find it when I need a source.

Willie, the editor in me is making an appearance.

Paragraph 2, hundreds of thousands (add the s)

I’d add an introductory statement at the top of your graphic: Look at these statistics about Affiliate Marketing:

In graphic: 75/100 online retailers offer an affiliate program
40% of Amazon’s revenue comes from affiliates
Big companies spend up to $150,000 ($ sign missing)

I have no idea what this means: “50% of advertisers saw a lack of understanding…”

You said you would be adding the video. Looks like there’s something for everyone when you do.

Kristin, I followed the link from the opt-in and it says this: “FOR CHOOSING TO REVIEW “DECEPTIVE TRUTHS”

just a second, we’re sending the PDF file for the book to your email.”

Looks like you’re linking to the wrong page based on the urls of the 2 pages — the one I got and the one you provided in the thread.

I’d also use green for “Money” on the thank you page. Or maybe show a small image of the book cover just to reinforce their choice.

    Congratulations on moving forward!

Kristin, great job! I love the format and the way you’ve laid out the content.

Did you choose the red color because it is a signature color for you? If not, think about using Green as a highlight color, since green is associated with money. For example, use green for Money on the cover page to make it pop. Then you could also use green to highlight the tip #s in the TOC, and the chapter headings.

Have you thought about making short YouTube videos for each of the tips? Then you could offer short suggestions about how to implement, a “mini-coaching” opportunity, and link each video to the book. I think that could increase the value to you and to the reader. You can also share the link to the final product or to a website with the sales page.

The red doesn’t bother me, but since it seems to be an issue for some readers, I’d go with black, because you don’t want to give anyone a reason to avoid using the book.

Let me know when it’s released and I’ll help you promote it on social media.

Happy Birthday wishes to Robert, Coach Claire, and Suzanne!

Robert, here is something that might help you, from my blog: http://authoritymarketingmastery.com/build-authority-pyramid/

I’ve tried to attach the worksheet, but it’s a pdf and the error message says it’s not allowed. I did share it in my Facebook group if you want to join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/AuthorityMarketingMastery/

And here’s the link to the video walking you through the worksheet: https://youtu.be/g3pFPhil0PA With the video, you may not need the worksheet I created to get the value.

If you find it useful, would you mind subscribing to my YouTube channel so I can build my subscriber #s.

God has given you strengths and guided you to skills and successes you can share with others. I’m sure he will guide you to clarity as well!

Don, that’s true. It is a sticky wicket. Better to call it “feedback” and leave it up to people where they post it initially. You can always suggest later that they leave it on Amazon after you have delivered the bonus if they don’t make that connection themselves.

When they don’t come with trains, I think of platforms as distribution systems — how you get something from A to B, at least in the internet space. Social media platforms move information from A to B. Other platforms host membership sites and facilitate the movement of info from A to B. Other platforms move products from seller to buyer.

But, Susan, you are also right. In politics platforms are positions on issues. So platform is one of those terms that must be defined in context.

In my former life, I had a similar problem with the term “performance guarantee.” It could mean either “performance by a product” that was being purchased, or it could mean “performance of the contract terms in their entirety.” When businesses didn’t ask which definition applied, they often got in trouble. If you are concerned about being misinterpreted, simply define your use of the term.

Scott, nobody said pricing is permanent. You can start with a low price, and if you get a flood of buyers, you can either raise the price or keep the price low as an “introductory” offer. If buyers tell you that they would have paid 3 times as much, you can test higher prices. Pick a product, pick a price, and start.

Joe, I have a fear of heights — things like buildings, not airplanes or mountains. So for some time I forced myself into situations where I had to confront this fear. Probably the most extreme was an escalator between 2 buildings 40-something stories off the ground with nothing under it in earthquake-prone Japan. Every time I feel uncertain, I remember that I faced the fear and won! Makes it less frightening to try other things.

Bruce, I agree that copycat content that is superficial may not serve you well, but I think the content you post has to dovetail with your target audience. If your target audience isn’t comprised of deep thinkers (and I can think of several who fit that description, but will still spend money), then “deep” content won’t serve you well either. Making sure your content matches your target audience’s appetite is absolutely key if you are to benefit from its creation

That also goes for length. Having taught for 15 years at the college level, I know the attention span of many is not what it used to be. Someone I respect called it the “feed mentality,” that they are used to scanning social media feeds. Add to that the gaming mentality, always expecting the next “thrill” to come quickly. I think you need to create content for your audience here too. In fact, creating good content in short bursts can be tough, because you don’t have the luxury of time to get your important points across to your audiences.

Norma, I agree. Right now I am beta testing a 5-day challenge here on the forum, because I think it will get people to results, and they will be more likely to take the next step. We’ll see what the testers think. The information is already in a mind map blueprint, so I could also offer that as a lead magnet too, or even create a checklist to go with it.

I have a pdf lead magnet, fast and easy, for people who prefer that format.

To capture as many people as possible, I think you have to look at multiple formats.

She might be a good collaborator, and even if she isn’t still doing it, she will have some ideas for collaboration, I’m sure. Also, there is a group planning a fitness summit in mid-January. It’s not bride-specific, but you might get some ideas or contacts. Find Georgia Lee London on FB and I’m sure you’ll see something on it. If not, let me know.

Jennifer, I use LeadPages and I’ve been pretty happy with it. I started using it because it was easy to use and I can deliver my lead magnets directly through it. If you use it to deliver lead magnets, make sure your autoresponder is set to single opt-in, since the lead magnet will be delivered automatically without any additional action, like double opt-in. Also, it easily syncs to GetResponse and Mailchimp for me. It is an added expense but once you’ve mastered the initial learning curve, it’s easy to use, and there are lots of options.

Could it be the time of year?

    I agree with Julia’s suggestion:

I’d like to know if a thread receives a reply and be able to @ someone if I want their input.
Not sure if that’s do-able or a good idea as the group gets larger but it would help in following the threads.

I will try Bruce’s “favorite” suggestion too.

It may be that people are just naturally more distracted with additional holiday obligations this time of year. In addition, many of us may be trying to finish 2017 with a strong effort, and planning for a strong kickoff to 2018.

Maybe a challenge from time to time will motivate everyone to join in, even for a short time. But like every group, there will be people who are more active than others.
