One of the things that I think holds true with google is they like to see content, content that is read, and content that is linked to.
What would happen if you started writing one blog post a day, linking to it in facebook or linkedin, and sending it to everyone you know, posting it on facebook and linkedin, and google + – ??

think about the EXPERIENCE you want someone to have on your site.
if you were to go to someone else’s site looking for your kind of information and training . . what would you want to see?
Are those components on your site?
Is your site easy to navigate and folks can spend hours digging into the content and training on your site?
Can someone feel HOOKED after spending some time on your site?

I had taken a few weeks off of “work” and was sitting on my sister’s deck in the sun, and then on the beach, thinking, I don’t want to go back to work.
This business was my solution.

That’s an interesting observation, Les, and thanks for bringing it to my attention.
This has been a HUGE project, with many moving parts and plugins . . and it’s just not all dialed in yet . .
this has been a bit harder to make it EXACTLY like I envisioned instead of just buying some ready-made software that just does everything a certain way!!

I would agree with you about pursuing a strategy that benefits google and benefits your reader.
And my belief is that when we genuinely create content that benefits the user . . . that’s usually in line with what google etc are looking for . .
But I also believe that with so many folks attempting to “game” the system
and the presence of advertising . . on which google makes a profit and it skews the concept of google only wanting what’s best for the reader (because the advertising often isn’t)
so then we have to factor that in as well.

7 – 8:30 AM: Write copy (I’m writing this during my writing time)
8:30 – 9:00 AM – shower, walk the dog, eat a quick bit
9 – 12 noon: 3 1-1 consults with personal clients
12 – 12:30 eat lunch
1-4 ski
That’s what I wrote this morning . . .
but it’s 12:30 and I haven’t had lunch and am obviously not skiing . .
and may end up doing another project online instead of taking the afternoon off . .
So can amend this if I do that . .

you are so right . . . there are people who need your message . . but if they don’t hear it, they don’t know you can solve it.
And when your message is honed to exactly who you can help – and you get it out there – you ATTRACT those kinds of folks who need what you have . .
And so right on the waiting . . sometimes we are waiting for something to happen TO us . . when it’s time to MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN!

yes, I think you have great insight on this . . . and that’s the trend . . the googles and facebooks are going to FORCE folks to comply with best engagement practices . . or just not show their pages!
One thing I learned from my article marketing days is that you CAN convert profitably by sending folks to content . . and in fact, we’ve seen advertisers do that in the last few years, especially at facebook, sending folks to content or videos, then a gentle CTA at the end . . .

you are so right . . having a low ticket product is better than none at all.
there are many price points that work well, and just because I take the time to explain how to sell at, say $1000 or $2000 or $35,000 or $100 doesn’t mean that $10 or $200 or $400 doesn’t work.
One big key with a low ticket product is that it makes a GREAT buyer lead.
Imagine if you sold a $10 training on your fe instead of a free subscriber?
THEN took that $10 buyer to a high ticket funnel?
I’m not saying low ticket doesn’t work.
I’m saying it’s probably not going to scale you to the highest levels.
But low ticket is a great place to start . . . but then leverage up quickly, don’t get stuck in it.
And again, did I say this before 🙂 – a low ticket product is a great buyer lead.
My own list is about 80% or so buyers . . not freebie leads 🙂
Continue to build and grow . . . but move with the times.
I believe everyone should be creating a product a month or so.
So each month can be a different price tag.
And you can have both a low ticket AND a high ticket

Scott, great insight . . and you are so right, an evolving internet requires evolving strategies.
There have been HUGE changes just the last few weeks.
You probably know that a few weeks ago facebook changed their algorithm.
Google is changing some parts of their ad algorithm soon.
And that is just the advertised algo changes.
Some folks are saying, well, these are just more changes . . . they’ll come full circle.
I doubt that.
Google and facebook are getting much more sophisticated, and I don’t they are going to go backward – ever.
This means if you are trying to get traffic by posting a few articles online . . .it’s not going to be effective anymore.
if you are getting traffic by buying ads on facebook that aren’t engaging viewers . . they are going to charge you more.
And many other little idisyncracies.
It’s just is.
So what’s the solution?
I believe one solution obviously is that you can get better at buying traffic, or better at using forums and better at getting involved online in ways that organically attract folks to your site.
Another can be to develop your own platform . . but I can tell you experience, it’s not easy, and there are many obstacles!
and there’s one more hidden piece of the puzzle . . and that is your monetization.
If you are selling a $10 product, and no long term funnel, it is just going to get harder and harder to make a profit, if any, because lead costs are going up and up and up.
I believe that there are 2 key monetization models that will drive the bulk of info revenue in the next few years:
1) memberships will continue to be a staple . . they create long term, residual, recurring revenue. They can grow organically. One catch: the cost to get a new member will likely be at or above the revenue for one month – meaning that you won’t be able to advertise and immediately make your money back – but it might take a month or 2 or 3 to make your money back and THEN begin to go into profit.
2) Repackage your training and sell for higher prices. If you are selling a downloadable product for $10 or $100, take the concepts you are teaching and go very deep, and sell instead as a Mastermind or a Coaching Program. Add interaction with you, homework and other deliverables . . . and get people RESULTS and you can charge $2000 instead of $100.
And even with a lower conversion rate, you’ll make more profit at $2000 than at $10 or $100 . . . .
Just a few thoughts on how to adapt, obviously if you have a business that will already withstand the changes, you don’t need to make changes (or do you?!)
But if you are building up from scratch, and you had previously planned to launch something low ticket . . . great, go ahead and launch, low ticket makes a great buyer lead . . .
But in the long run, I believe you will be more satisfied if you build something bigger that you charge more for.

One real key here is that you must have people coming to your site and engaging . . .
just putting content on the site won’t create engagement – even if it’s good.
So there has to be a combination of inviting folks to your site from where they are online (facebook, other forums, other sites) AND writing content (or creating videos) that they like.

Usually 2 hours.
Everything else really goes to pointing folks to the live weekly training . . . as that’s where lives are changed!

One key to building credit with paypal and the merchant accounts is sheer volume . . .so this is one place where starting with smaller products can really help you . . have a $100 product and sell 50 a month, you gain the credit to take bigger payments.

Looking into side hustles is powerful . . .and sometimes those side hustles might have to happen locally.
or they might mean starting with a very simple squeeze page just to build a list (that’s what I did to get started)
then starting writing books or recording videos to sell to your list (that’s what I did at first)

it’s daunting when you think about doing the whole project at once . . .like you have to know all the answers
but if you’ll just start it, then add a little each day, you’ll be surprised at what happens

well one challenge with facebook is that it’s all pretty open. . .just like someone can google something in India and get your website here . . they can do the same thing on facebook.
It has tons of functionality, and I doubt anyone at facebook even knows it all, much is probably compartmentalized.
From a personal level, facebook allows folks to share things and their friends can see them . . .
From a business level . . you can use facebook to find folks who are interested in what you teach . . but it does take targeting or getting involved in groups.

I have notifications turned off, the reason is that I don’t see a reason for folks to get 10 emails a day from me if 10 people reply.
I’m still working through the finer details on how to let folks know what posts have been responded to, etc, and perhaps that might look like a daily email.
But I’m just not fond of sending dozens of emails just to say “hey, look, someone posted something” (and I know it’s more meaningful than that).
But I am trying to work through, what’s the best way to do this so that folks get the notifications they want, without cluttering inboxes (and burning servers)!

Scott, the whole idea with facebook is that people with the needs that you help solve, are active on facebook.
It’s like if you go to a community event, there are people there who have needs.
But with facebook, instead of 100 local people, there are a million people who need what you teach.
So with facebook, you are going where they are, to find them to help them.
And advertising simply broadens that reach, although in theory you could do it organically (but it would take much longer to do)
So the idea isn’t simply chatting – but it’s reaching out and finding people who need the kind of help you offer.
