While I think it’s true that there is a fair share of scammers out there…
In my opinion the true Gurus do not lie to you.

Nor are they trying to deliberately deceive you.

No one can be all things to one person.
Many times it’s that ONE golden nugget you learn that will move you forward.

Think of what you know now and how many people you learned things from.

You did not develop your craft, more than likely, by learning from one source.

So It is with following a Guru.

I think that many times we feel duped because we jumped in before we were ready.
Thinking we could apply an advanced strategy when we hadn’t mastered the basics.

Getting honest about where you really are in your development is humbling but necessary if you want to make speedy progress.

Once you accurately evaluate where you are in your development, the next steps becomes much clearer.

There are a couple of exercises that might be helpful to you, Don, if you want to give them a try.

One is the be-do-have model that allows you to get to the person you need to BE in order to reach your goal.

    Here’s a brief overview; http://www.coaching4clergy.com/articles/BE-DO-HAVE.html

While not directly related to choosing a niche, I believe that any time you can get clear on what you really want, the direction will reveal itself.

Once it does the hard part of staying on the same track begins.

The other exercise is the 7 levels of why.

Again, not choosing a niche directly but a very powerful tool to get clarity about what drives you at a deep level.

What you can charge on your credit card depends on your limit.

When I’ve had to pay or receive a large amount I use a bank draft. The transfer costs a flat fee and I would trust it over PayPal for a 5 or 10K+ payment. But that’s just me.

I have a business account with PayPal and they say there is not an incoming limit, but I still contact them if I know there will be an unusual sale or group of sales in my offline business.

A PayPal invoice might be an option as well. Just keep in mind they will take a percentage.

One other option to look into is PayPal Credit. You may be able to offer it as a payment option and let PayPal handle collecting the money over time while you get paid upfront.

I’ve only received small payments through Stripe and have had no issue with them.

I had a merchant service account for years but when I changed to a seasonal schedule (offline) I did not want to pay all year for the service when there were other comparable options that are basically on demand.

    Hi Jori,

    Great question!

I would say figure out how to help one.
How can you impact one woman? Then change her life.

The momentum will build when you focus on how you can help one.
Then you help one more and one more….

Before you know it, you’ve impacted women around the world.

But if you focus on changing the world first the “bigness” of it might stop you from ever getting started.

The biggest thing I’m looking for in a community is related or complimentary services to collaborate with.

I’m thinking cross-promotion, packaging products together and being able to offer more than we can on our own.

Similar to what you see with the large JV’ers but on a smaller scale, simply because many of us don’t have active lists of 1000’s.

In this way, you might add a product of a community member that’s getting started as a bonus.
This gives more value to your people and gets the new product out in front of your subscribers.

    As the African Proverb says;

“If you want to travel quickly, go alone. If you want to travel far, go together.”

Having a type of team behind the scenes to look things over, click through all links and see where the user experience might need to be improved would be helpful.

You just don’t see it all and sometimes it was “fixed” but not saved or you missed it all together and you don’t know until it’s been an issue.

I would also like to be in a group where most people see the glass half full.
Where the culture is to keep moving forward (My kid brain goes back to the movie Meet The Robinsons 2007).

If people are going to grow they have to feel like they are in a safe place to share, no matter what the level of learning and growth.

I’ve been in paid forums where members don’t always play nice, and while I know it’s not easy to keep people playing nicely together I ran an offline group for local merchants and often had to tell people to leave their issues at the door so I know it can be done.

I think it starts with defining the culture of the group. What are we all really here for?

Being able to introduce ourselves through our profiles can help get to know each other and let other members in on what we are here to do.

Lastly – then I’ll get off the stage – The best forum I was ever a part of was a paid forum that celebrated taking action more than anything else.

We often had countdowns together where we checked in with each other for 3, 15 or 30 days to see if things got done.
It was fun and added some outside pressure because people were looking at whether or not you finished on time.

Yes, it’s accountability but it was also camaraderie and as we cheered each other on it built trust.
If you’re shy or not the first one to jump in, seeing it’s a safe place to grow can make all the difference.

In terms of watching the webinar, I prefer the on-demand version.
So I’d be more likely to subscribe if I knew it was available right then.

When I’m looking for a resource I want to dig in when I find it, not wait until next Thursday at 2pm when I’m in the middle of something else.

Knowing a webinar was recorded hasn’t prevented me from making a purchase.
Plus, I’m more likely to review it (or parts of it) more than once and sell myself on the idea.

This makes me a better customer in the long run.

I’m personally kind of resistant to the “you have until the end of the hour to order” and get it now because there won’t be a replay, too.

Deadlines and a level of scarcity are necessary but I think in many niches (and if you spend any time in Social Media) we see so much advertising that it’s easy to skip over something that makes you wait.

That being said – I’d say – don’t put off a webinar because your not ready to automate.

Set up a time and get people there before you worry about making an automated version.

I don’t have any experience using Native Advertising like Outbrain.

But I rarely if ever will click through the ad selection I see at the bottom of the page.

Advertorials on the other hand, I find very effective (from a reader perspective).
They contain useful information and look enough like an article to not trigger the fact that it’s an ad.

    This is an older reference but contains some good info on the topic;

A Lively Introduction to Native Advertising

Some of the best advertorials remind me of the full page direct response marketing story/ads.

What did you really need when you were in the shoes of your client?
Chances are, they need it now, as well.

I’ve found some great ideas looking back into by email inbox from 3 years back.
Sometimes it’s easy to forget what we needed when we were getting started and to see your offer from your clients perspective.

I would say the crucial component of any business is how well you know your client/customer.

Once you have clarity around who you serve, everything else is built around that.

    Hi Kristin,

I have not tried them yet but https://www.fancyhands.com was recommended to me.
They work on a subscription basis. You get a specific number of request per month, depending on your subscription level.

I have used fiverr (it’s not always 5 bucks) and freelancer.com.
Like anything you need to try a few to see if they will work for you (or not).

I find most people at fiverr are pretty straight forward and I’ll usually email them with what I’m looking for before I ever purchase a gig.

I’ve also hired local teens and stay at home moms for things.

    Hope this helps!

    Julia
