With another eye surgery next week, I may not be able to read, so I am thinking that going to “Sean’s candy shop” and listening to training maybe my pastime. That and eating hot dogs. No one comes to our house for Thanksgiving anymore, they come in for Christmas. So we started a lazy at home tradition of eating hot dogs and watching movies.
Then the daughter dropped in year before last unexpected with the grandchildren and we all ate hot dogs!
Hot Dogs and Sean, the Thanksgiving Day Event!

I think it would help my wife if she saw a check instead of me just getting bank deposits.
She usually gets paid by check. I have a bad one now made out to her I am trying to collect on.
Checks or deposits, it spends the same, but doesn’t register mentally the same.
Also, I think she thinks I spend a lot more than I do on overhead and when I tell her I got a deposit
she thinks it will mostly go to overhead, but believe me, I am cheap!Moral support out to all of those in this business…

Somehow this wound up over several threads, so I will update here too.
Thanks to all for the encouragement!
It is a work in progress, much like Sean is doing here, but he is light years ahead and his topic/purpose somewhat different.
I wrote an almost 10,000 word introduction and mini course in five recorded sessions to introduce people to the platform and the three steps to wealth as a quickstart freebie.
I am not in good voice today so, I hope to record that and post it soon.
I will also make it into an ebook and probably make a package including it for people to sign up to my list.
I have big ideas, not touched on 10% yet, so I have a long way to go and the vision of something really, really big.
Thanks again!

Friday Update 11-17-17
I was stuck yesterday and I realized what it was, I was trying to use some existing content to start off the platform for an introduction.
I finally realized that wouldn’t work, it was good material, but I couldn’t get from there to here with my thought process with anything prewritten.
So starting at 9 pm last night, I have written almost 10,000 words to create five introductory sessions I will record as the quick start for the platform. The sessions will be free. I like Sean’s idea about giving them content so they can know what you are about and get over the hurdle of whether they will risk their money to try you.
They are five, pretty quick sessions that will logically and emotionally lead you to more action.
I will also make it an ebook they can get for joining the list along with a few other resources.
I have some other business work to do and my voice is a bit off this morning, so hopefully I can get that done later.
Thanks to all for their help and support!

Since 9 pm I have written over four thousand words. The wife is in bed asleep and I could do it all night, but have trouble getting up in the morning, so I reluctantly close the laptop and go to bed.
I had got stuck trying to make something work and then I walked away. When I came back I let it happen.
I think we know in our heart, but we won’t allow ourselves to believe it is possible to make a living or it has value so we have uncertainty.
An old coaching trick is when someone says I don’t know, say I know you don’t know, but if you did…..?
I also think you will find little signs along the way.
The true compass needle here points to others. When we help others with what we love to do, it aligns with that needle.

Update – Thursday
Trying to steal some time to work on the platform. I have a busy day with my other businesses.
Added search to the home page.
Added forums through the forum button.
Posted a little on the forum page.
Running up on which came first the chicken or the egg problems.
Just picking something and doing it, it all has to work for it to work.
I am making notes of your suggestions here, but it may be a while before I can implement them. I have to get it up and running, do the back work, gather together some products to sell, that sort of thing. I will make improvements to the structure as I go.
For now getting content up is the main focus, then we can work out the rest.
I have to go work in town for a few and when I am back I hope to try some laptop audio recording Sean Mize style.
It is a big thing to fire up the studio down stairs and then do a lot of editing, so I am going to try the laptop method to get some quick audio, but I was in radio and if it doesn’t pass my quality control it is fire up the studio time.
Thanks to all!

Tina, thank you so much!
Why am I not on wordpress?
There is probably no one in the whole world that hates wordpress more than I do.
I met a man that probably hated it as much as I do, but no one any more.
If it works for you, then you must be a genius with ten lucky rabbit’s feet!

@ Malik,
I really appreciate your response. I do intend to move the links up, but I am struggling with what I need at the top for a branding piece.
If you have a suggestion for that I am all ears.
As to columns, can you explain? As I see it there are three columns. Do you mean apply topics to columns? or do you mean on the pages that the buttons take you to?
I can’t do anything to control button width, that is determined by the text length.
Thanks!

Sometime ago, I decided the computer ought to work with the way you think and give structure to how you think and work….
When I figure out how to do that I will get back with you 😉
In the meantime, I do the Five P system
I think Chet Holmes got fed up and bought a brand new computer and with his assistant arraigned the files on the hard drive so nothing was more than three clicks away.

Self Doubt, I thought I had that, but I am wrong so often….
Here is a thought that helped me. I was worrying and doubting if my new projects would bring in money.
The truth is, I just don’t know. There is no guarantee.
On the other hand, I have worked one on one with enough people I am confident I can help people.
So I just went to work helping people and let the money take care of its self, come or not.best,

Laughing Out Loud
I am laughing out loud over the thought that anyone in my life knows what I am doing, understands or supports me.
My loving wife thinks the entire computer thing is a hobby.
Years ago, when I bought a new computer and let her know what we would be spending on it and involving her in the decision, she said, “Well, you don’t drink or gamble or even do sports, it is a lot of money, but I guess you should be able to have a hobby.”
I have to say I was offended.
So, I made it a point to bring her up to speed.
Here are the new handouts for your Pampered Chef business, I did them on the COMPUTER!
Would you mail the sales tax, I just finished them on the COMPUTER!
Here is a cd of the Church service you wanted to give away, I burned it on the COMPUTER!
Did you put all of your checks down, because I am seeing some you didn’t stub come through as I balance our accounts on the COMPUTER!
Here are the pictures you wanted for your mother, I printed them out on the COMPUTER!
If you want me to take those videos off of your phone I will have to plug it into the COMPUTER!
Here is a deposit into my account, it is from Amazon for the book I made on the COMPUTER!
I got three new office clients this week, they saw my website I made on the COMPUTER!
She got the point.
It isn’t really a hobby.
I don’t even play solitaire.

Back At It
Yesterday was crazy, but I did make progress. I got the skeleton of the first page up and started cleaning away the things from the old website that didn’t fit. Some I am still thinking on.
Last night I started organizing my content I would be populating the website with.
Today is busy, but I have written a few posts online that will in time find their way to the website.
I have tons of material. I don’t want to offer the full programs or documents, but I can quickly pick out the topics and key sentences to make quick articles and since they come from a larger written document I can easily say, If you want to learn more then I have this…
I can see this taking some time to get up and running, but well worth it.
More later,
Scott Hogue CChH

Do you have days like this?
I did work on the business today. Would have done more, but the cat took sick and had to be put to sleep. It was the wife’s cat, so that required care and attention, then the grandson took sick at school so in the middle of that we had to go get him, had to go by the clinic and get his medicine.
Hadn’t seen my daughter for her birthday, so I dropped off some presents while I was there. All while working in the offline business.
You can’t make this stuff up.
It is something every day it seems.
I couldn’t sleep and got up at 3:30 am or I wouldn’t have got anything done on the online business.
It seems life is one urgency to another these days. I think about everyone is that way. I have surgery in a week, so I have to get ahead somehow for that. I guess I will sleep when they knock me out.
If anyone figures out how to put life on hold, let me know. It is a universal problem.
The thing is when you have a job, your boss or the company can be the bad guy and say you can’t drop everything and come jump start the car or take the grandson to ball practice.
Whew,

cpanel sounds like wordpress, so I am not sure what that means.
I remember a little about my failed wordpress days, but I am much better now… 😉
Even if I had one site that was about claw hammers and another one about motor sport racing, the same people that are interested in motor sport racing and the same people that use claw hammers eat meals. So, I could send them both to a site on good food and finding or making a decent meal. Poor example, but maybe you follow me.
I am saying out of a half dozen websites I have, there are different people going to each and not a lot of people that go to several and probably none that go to all.
What would be a good way to send people from one site to another?
I wouldn’t imagine it would cost me anything.
A banner ad, an offer, an article or content… just figured there were some good guidelines and ideas on it people have come up with.
I have to admit I am a bit of a rebel now. I don’t live my life too much in fear of Google. I do appreciate the information though. That is interesting and I probably need to now that for future projects.
I have heard Sean say something like, build your business to help people and not to game some system and when they change the system you will still be helping people.
Not knocking those that are doing SEO. Everyone has their own model and what works best for them. I just got burned out chasing page ranking and I have this colleague that has been banned from adwords so many times she has about had a nervous breakdown, her monthly income depends on adwords. She changes her sites to match their rules of the day, they are happy and she is back in. Then without doing anything different, they ban her ads again and give her a whole new set of hoops to jump through.
She tells me that her Google account rep at Google often has trouble figuring out why she got banned.
We have to move away from that in my humble opinion.
Thanks to all for the info!

I have had the thought that anyone that wanted to offer some content on wealth and success in any of all of its forms I would consider posting that on the wealth portal I am making.
I could link to your article or content.
I am pretty conservative in my religion, I wouldn’t feel comfortable linking to any unconventional spiritual content, just because it wouldn’t align with what I will be having on the site as the spiritual side of wealth. Not being a judge or critic here, you follow your path. Just trying to give a little direction for what I am looking for.
Money making
Internet marketing
Health and wellness
Relationships
Motivation
Success Stories
Law of Attraction
Home based businessesThat sort of thing.
if you want to email me at scotthogue@ymail.com or just post something here that is fine.

Do What You Love
There is this old saying, “Do what you love for a living and you will never work another day in your life.”
I know a woman that works hard all day at her job and then comes home and works harder caring for her horses.
Ask her if she works hard and she will tell you all about the problems at work and how hard it is to please everyone and all about the deadlines, but she won’t mention horses and work in the same sentence.
I know these guys that set up a shooting range in the county, have a zip cord line over a creek, built a lean to for cooking out and meeting under, made a dirt bike and four wheeler track all on an old farm in the county. They cut down trees, hauled bales of hay, shoveled dirt, swung a hammer and did what I would call a lot of work.
They call it fun and can’t wait to do it again.
Most people don’t really know what they want. My daughter thought she wanted to be a half dozen things as she grew up. Then she was nearly killed by a drunk driver and flew in a helicopter to a trauma center, had life saving surgery, plastic surgery and in time came out almost as good as new. One day she said, “I want to be a part of that. I want to help people that are suffering.” She is a clinical coordinator for a medical company now and may do cpr, call an ambulance and load a patient, x-ray and put a temporary cast on a broke leg, give a child struggling to breath a breathing treatment and bring someone out of a diabetic coma all in the same week. She can’t get enough. She keeps applying for jobs with more responsibility in her company. She doesn’t call it work, she calls it exciting.
If you have a way to make a living while building your business you eliminate money worries and financial stress.
The old saying, “Don’t quit your day job” is good advice. If you are doing what you want to do, then it isn’t hard work no matter how much effort it takes, it is exciting.
Yes, there are times you will need discipline, but how much discipline do you have to have to do things that are fun to you?
I see people go into business and instead of making a business they manage, they just make themselves another job.
Michael Gerber and his e-myth series covers the downfalls, traps and disappointments people going into their own business commonly struggle with and how to overcome them. I highly recommend his e-myth series of books and programs.
best,
Scott Hogue CChH

Starting On The Challenge
Just starting, today is a busy day in my other businesses, so I can’t devote the time I need yet. I got up early and just started redoing the website. Lots of work to do. Lots to remove from the site and clean up as I replace it. This afternoon I hope to start making the links live.
You all know how you put something up as place holders or put a section up and as you go it doesn’t quite fit in and you redo, redo, redo.
I think I have enough for you to start to get the idea of where I am heading.
I welcome your comments.

Tina has given a pretty detailed reply. It is always good to have a business plan over winging it. Otherwise you are heading out on a journey without a map or clear destination. I would take several days to consider, add notes and answers to her outline.
A common problem I find in helping people with any business is they don’t follow through and that includes me.
People will usually succeed in time with what Chet Holmes called pig headed determination, trial and error, they will eventually fail their way to success if they continue, even with a poor beginning plan. Sean kept trying things until he found something that worked and then tried more of it and other things, kept at it adjusting based on his results, rinse and repeat.I want people to find this pig headed determination and sense of mission before we talk about anything else. In any business or even life you are going to find days when on a one to ten scale, today is a ten on the good reasons to quit scale. I want people to find their eleven on the one to ten scale of reasons they must achieve their goal. That way, when they reach a bad day that is a big bad ten, the eleven behind them pressing them on will overcome a ten on the bad day scale.
When we define a ten level reason to quit as the maximum and an eleven level reason to never quit, then we have already settled all of that when things get tough. The eleven flips the switch to on and welds it there. No turning back. We burned the boats. No wasting energy wondering if we should quit when we run up on this problem, we use the energy to solve the problem.
In working with people I now do a pre-business plan. A bit of education and a bit of soul searching. When you get this right you have a foundation you can build on and then make a good business plan. You will have your eleven.
For education, I want people to understand they must exchange things for money. Somehow people often miss this, I think they were sold the idea in some marketing piece or want to believe in something for nothing. They think there is an Aladdin’s lamp and they want their free wishes. They come to me with the most amazing things they think people will pay for.
What they exchange must have value to the customer.
To have value means it makes a positive change in their client’s life.
The anticipated positive change must be worth more in the client or customer’s mind than the money.
It has to be something you can communicate. You have to transfer your emotion about the product or service to the client. If you don’t have a positive emotion to transfer you will find it very hard to make the sale.
If I just ate breakfast I won’t be paying you twelve dollars for a hamburger, it won’t change my positive experience of life much, I am full, it might even make me sick if I overeat. If I am starving hungry, I might pay you twenty or thirty dollars, even more for a hamburger, it will end my hunger and change my experience of life for the better.
Having something to offer a hungry person is one side of the coin, the other side is knowing your life purpose, the thing you were put here to do. I worked in Fortune 500 companies for 22 years and I was as logical and down to earth as anyone that had a desk and office. In spite of seeing things that didn’t exactly add up, I believed in standard business models and the usual advice, work hard and you will get ahead, discipline is the answer, the more education you have the better prepared you are for life and success, those sort of things.
When I started my own business I soon learned there was a spiritual side to success. 2 plus 2 didn’t always add up to 4. Sometimes the result was a negative 2 and at others when you really needed a break it was a positive 16.
Lasting success is based on faith. You have to believe in you and what you do. You must believe you can help your client. If not they pick up on that no matter how pretty your presentation folder is or how shiny your shoes. It doesn’t hurt to believe in a higher power that is a resource to you outside of yourself. When you run up on a problem that is greater than your internal resources, if you don’t believe in external resources, what would make you continue to try? Every great achievement is almost always made two feet beyond what is physically possible. Once you give your all and still will yourself forward, that is when the miracle occurs.
In our food service business my wife and I quit several times before we succeeded. Thank God we never quit at the same time! Then when we ran up on a ridiculous tax bill (they had raised our taxes 600%) and it was life or death for the business and we were about to lose everything, I spent the house payment on a warehouse of merchandise from a chain of stores closing. I thought I was buying candy, cookies and chips for our vending machines. I had examined three or four boxes and was satisfied with what I saw.
My wife came home to see literally every room and nook and cranny, upstairs and downstairs filled with merchandise except the bathrooms and said, how did you pay for this? I said, with the house payment of course. She asked “and how do we make the house payment now?” I said, I am not sure, but they mixed up our order and they don’t want it back. I plan on going to the flea market this weekend and it looks like I have enough baby formula alone to sell and make the house payment.
I paid the house payment and the taxes on sales of baby formula, car wax, shoe polish, diapers, jars of pickles, barbecue sauce, tire shine and shaving cream. It wasn’t in the business plan, it wasn’t on the bill of sales for the warehouse, it wasn’t in our wildest dreams. Two feet past the possible the miracle happened.
What are you interested in? A solid interest or more truthfully an obsession for some topic or field is worth a fortune.
You skills and talents will lie where your interests lie.
How do you want to change the world?
What would you do all day, even if you weren’t paid to do it and you would feel your day was well spent?
What can you have faith in?When you know your purpose, know your mission, pick the object that you know ties in with those things, then you can have faith in your success and confidence in your ability and outcome. With a burning desire, an eleven reason to succeed on the one to ten scale, the correct thing to offer others to change their lives that resonates with you and the faith and confidence that comes from knowing your purpose and being on a mission, you won’t fail to follow through.
Or you just might say, “I think there might be money in selling widgets.”
I have never seen that approach work longterm.
It is late, I just got in, I hope I made sense and in someway this helps you.

My wife does similar things for coupons. I know she likes facebook pages and shares things to get cents off on mayonnaise or something….cat food…even dog food and we don’t have a dog, no joke, she gives it to the neighbor. (for his dog, come on now 🙂
She is a do gooder.
I guess I am her biggest charitable project.

Years ago, Frank Kern hired someone to make this software that you could put on your website and he said if you send this free gift link to three people through this window (or like my facebook page and post there or whatever, there were several versions of it) I will give you this gift free for helping me help the world. The software checked to see if they really did it. He called it the Good Karma offer. If you help others with this free gift, then you will receive the reward of Good Karma and I will send you this for helping me help the world.
I think he doubled his list in a week and was at about six times when he quit using it. Of course he was doing other things that multiplied his list six times too, but he said it was the most amazing thing he ever did.
He then used the software as a give away or bonus for one of his programs and it drove the search engines, email companies and social media outlets wild. They changed their systems to stop it.
People were modifying it to capture the emails even if the people that received the link didn’t opt in. There were several ways to abuse it. So they fire walled it.
But, I have heard of people doing it without the software. They just say something like, “I think you are a good guy or gal and want to help the world, I share that with you. If you will work with me to help the world by sending this free resource to three of your friends, then come back and on your honor, click here when you are done, then I will give you this great bonus to reward you and help you reach your goals and change the world for the better. We are in this together.”
I am wondering what results they are getting. I have seen the marketing piece, but I don’t know how the “On your honor” method is working out.
Just throwing it out as an idea and wondering if anyone has any experience.

If I am going to post a long blog post or put a large document up online, anything I might not want to do over, I write it in a word processor first and save it as I go.
I can’t tell you how many times I was posting to my blog and the power here blinked or the website locked up or something just messed up and the post was lost.
I had to decide if I wanted to go to the trouble of recreating it all over again.
This way I just open the document and there it is to copy and paste.
Also, if I save these pieces as word documents with names I can go back and draw from them later to recycle, add to them or just use the ideas.
best to all,

Terrible experience, you have my sympathy.
On the other hand, according to Napoleon Hill there is always some unexpected seed of equivalent or greater benefit in the ashes of tragedy or difficulty.
I lost three hard drives this year, two at the same time. 8 tb of data. Some of the material was lost forever. The positive result is that I went to all of the old data dvd’s I had burned and hard drives on the shelf and when I reorganized with two 6 tb drives backing each other up, I am now more organized than ever, have my data on network storage so any device in the house can pull it up (Imagine a cellphone with access to the 4.8 tb I have on the 6 tb drive) I also have information I didn’t have on my working drives now at my finger tips and oddly enough, I found some family pictures, old documents and things I thought I had lost forever when I had a computer crash in 2008.
Never had more data organized before or easier to access.
Wishing you the best,

Norma, it is a long story. I am a touch typist so I will just rattle it off, but don’t worry with it if it is too much. I have noticed your posts about eye problems and thought I might send you a private message when that became available.
So the last time I go on a missionary trip to Africa, I hear of these children dying in the Congo, not all that far from Mansa, Zambia where I was. So I sneak into the Congo, find them with local help (and help from above) and bring them back alive, but I gave away my food and water. When I got back to my last base camp I found that my water there had been taken. I was in serious trouble.
I got so dehydrated that it shrank the vitreous humour in my eyes and pulled the retina loose in one and did misc. damage in the other. (I have floaters in it like a snow globe) I made it back to the US, fell off the plane and had to have help to get in the van, but I made it home. I shouldn’t be alive. I had a bad cough for a year. Have lots of little ailments I picked up in Africa now.
I went to a name brand eye clinic to have the retina pull fixed, my local doctor said it wasn’t that bad, but the surgeon had a bad day and blinded me. They made a number of mistakes that caused my retina to shed. Then I had a vitrectomy, a buckle, lot of laser by another doctor to save the eye and restore what of my vision they could. They put a bubble in my eye, you may have had that too. I had to keep my head pointed to the floor 24/7 for 66 days, including sleeping. Lost a year of any serious work in our food distribution business and about went mad.
They didn’t get the retina straight and that took years to work through, now it is not so bad, you get used to a lot. I was over 80% black as night blind in that eye before they reattached the retina, so I am blest.
All of the trauma caused a trauma induced cataract, which was so bad it caused glaucoma. With the cataract and scar tissue blocking the drains, my pressure was going up and up and the cataract was blinding me. No one local would touch me. I went to Dr. Ming Wang, the man they based the movie “God Is Not Dead” on and he said you have no choice, I promise you complications if we have the surgery and blindness that isn’t correctable if we don’t.
June 15th I had the surgery. Came out as blind as a bat. He tapped the fluid in my repeatedly, took tons of eye drops, pills and treatments and now I have 20/40 in that eye with some distortion but I consider that a miracle. It is developing a secondary cataract, I have to go back in December and they will fix that, they say it usually is a piece of cake, but my eye over responds due to the previous damage. Dr. Wang says when miracles start, they tend to continue, but if I have problems we will deal with them. Put his hand on my shoulder, said I know you have been through a lot, but I really believe we will get through this and you will clearly see the smiles on your great grandchildren not yet born.
This surgery is on the other eye. I have what they call floppy iris syndrome which makes it more tricky, this eye has what they call a malignant cataract, not cancer, just really ugly and getting worse by the day. That is the surgery I will have next week. I asked why that eye is so bad and Dr. Wang said, that eye went to Africa too, but without all of the surgical trauma it took longer to get this bad. I did a lot of welding too in my younger days, flew airplanes and was up in those sunny skies and that may have made this worse for a fellow as young and skipper as I am 😉
On some nasty eye drops, both to treat it and for pre op. I never knew you could be on eye drops so strong they would make you sick to your stomach or your throat as dry as a desert, but I do now.
If I might encourage you, I know my retina improved for three years and possibly to a lessor extent even longer. Aerobic exercise seemed to help the most when they lifted my activity restrictions. I kept a record and looked at a grid regularly and noticed the changes.
I certainly feel for you and your retina problems. I go to Dr. Wang and see people from all parts of the world in the waiting room and some have been through so much before they found him. I see people that are in so much worse shape than I am. The man is obsessed and convinced God put him on the earth to make the blind see. I wouldn’t argue with him. Wonderful guy, MIT and Harvard degrees, has a degree in nuclear physics that he uses to advance laser surgery, has written a number of text books used around the world. Created many of the tools and methods he uses. He assigns a coordinator to every patient that follows them through every step of the process, room to room, finances, prescriptions, surgery dates, I think I could ask her the weather forecast and she wouldn’t bat an eye and tell me the week’s forecast!
I have had five eye surgeries so far, will need a sixth for sure, may need a seventh, but they are confident I will do well eventually and I see better now in my first eye than in years, in spite of the secondary cataract.
Thank you for your concern.
If I may be of any service, by all means contact me.Scott Hogue CChH

I can use all of the prayer I can get, in a lot of ways.
This is supposed to be the easier eye. The other one was really tough, only Dr. Wang would touch it.
If I can’t read next week, guess I will just have to listen to Sean!

Thanks Sean!
It is a work in progress. On the three steps to wealth, I have tons of material I taught in live and in person groups. I intend to just pick the headlines of these pieces and first few sentences in each piece to make a short version and then add a link, “if you would like to learn more…” I will be adding them as I have time.My hope is by taking a training piece already written and editing it down, it won’t be hard or time consuming to create content that aligns with the original piece and what they will eventually get.
There there will be the “sell aways” as you put it, subscriber magnets.
Sean likes the concept, so it is full speed ahead!
I think I have a new obsession…
It is going from the old website and approach to the new platform and new approach. Lots to do.
As my wife says when she starts heavy cleaning, “It is going to look worse before it looks better…”

I do agree that it is alright not to work on all parts of your business everyday. Some days it may make sense not to work on your business at all.
I do think you should look over all of the parts of the business everyday, even if you just take 60 seconds and take no actions. There are several reasons for that.
One is it keeps the subconscious mind active. It may come up with some good ideas by the time you get around to that part of the business again.
The next part is what I call exercising the habit. When I was seriously ill I couldn’t ride my exercise bike. Some days I was better than others, but a lot of days I was in no shape to exercise at all. I knew that exercise was key to recovering my health and fitness, so I made a vow I would sit on that bike every 24 hours. If I felt like it I did a little. If I didn’t feel like it I put my feet on the pedals and made one slow revolution. I would try again tomorrow.
If I couldn’t exercise my body, I could exercise the habit. In just over a month I was exercising on the bike every day. In three months I was as fit as ever.
Continuity is key to success. Any gap can be your downfall.
If you don’t work on your business, I suggest you work on your habit.
Best,
Scott Hogue CChH

Years ago, decades actually, I bought my first wife a car. I was at this car lot, it was cold and I was looking over each car I thought would be an acceptable possibility. The salesman in a thin blazer answered a few questions and then said, come inside I want to talk with you.
He told me, “People don’t buy cars, they buy stories. It is cold outside, why don’t you tell me what story you want and I will match that up with the car?”
I was caught off guard at that. I told him I didn’t know how to answer that, but I wanted a car for my wife, something she could carry the children in and we could go to Church in. I was a minister and did funerals, I drove a truck to my factory job, but I wanted a car that would look decent in a funeral procession. I also wanted a car that was taken care of, I needed to get a lot of service out of it and I wanted one that hadn’t been abused.
He said do you like blue? I said I did. He said what about your wife, does she like blue? Sure.
I have your car in the cleanup shop. Let me call them and they will bring it over. I was surprised to say the least.
It was an Olds Salon, a four door Olds Cutlass and it was blue, lot of cloth inside, great paint, seats looked new.
When the guy got out he said, Bobby, where is the pillow? He said, I left it over at the shop. He said, bring it over.
The Cutlass had belonged to a widow woman that has an office job. I saw the paperwork with her name and number where she traded it in. I called her. The pillow is what she sat on in the car, even the driver’s seat looked new.
He said, here is the story, this widow woman drives this car to work here in town. After a year she wants something that doesn’t remind her of her late husband and gets a smaller car here. I have the records where they got it serviced here in town. The motor has a little of a knock when it starts, but all of these 3.8’s do. It won’t hurt it. I have another one on the back lot that has the same engine, you are welcome to crank it and hear it knock when it starts up.
I bought the story and the car. It was a good car. He threw in the pillow.
True story.

I don’t drink coffee. The wife hates it. She can smell it on me if I meet someone at a coffee shop.
I had a boss that would go to a motel room every year about this time of year and close out the year reports and do the next year planning and then would be ready for the end of year meeting where the executives got their bonuses and pink slips. They had a three day retreat where they would pass out awards, review and then work on the next year goals.
I had to do my planning and work in an office in the factory. Interruptions galore.
A study says that it takes about 12 to 16 minutes to get back to the level of productivity you were in before you were interrupted and that they measured on average an interruption about every 6 minutes.
Which means you can’t be as productive at work as away. Which is why I left and never looked back 😉

Norma,
I am going to have to look at your planner. I am in planner remission, I went to a 12 Step program for planner addicts.I LOVE planners!
I open that Business folder and see those five sub folders in order and know I need to have activity every day on all of them if it is just review.
That folder is in Google Back Up and Sync so it is on all of my devices and I didn’t lose a thing with my multiple hard drive crash.
