Sean says if your passion is not in a profitable niche, then pursue your passion, but find a profitable niche where other people are passionate and make money in that area to fund your passion.

Linking things you want with things you need to do, but don’t really want to do I have found is very powerful for me and my clients.

Adding one here I plan on spending 30 minutes a day on my body starting next year.

With all of these surgeries this year I have had so many restrictions against lifting and exertion, not to mention medications and such, I have found it has taken a toll on me. Laying around, I have picked up about 10 pounds this year in comfort food.

So exercise, planning diet and nutrition, I actually am thinking about returning to the body work part of Kung Fu that I studied and practiced in my youth those long years ago. I can say I was never as fit as when I took Kung Fu classes three times a week, but I was younger then too.

Now does this have anything to do with business and internet marketing?

I learned long ago that everything is connected to everything.

Would better health, more energy, feeling better about you and your body be something that would help you in life? In business? To be more creative?

    I think so,

One Powerful Thing You Can Do To Change Your Business

Sean says, “What if you just recorded one hour of training a week…”

In a year you would have about 50 new trainings you could sell or use for marketing.

I think that not only would you have 50 new products, that by recording something every week there would be a halo effect in every area of your business. Your thinking would change, your focus would change, you would create momentum.

Some version of that is my New Year’s resolution.
I started yesterday answering one question on my website a day. In a year I should have a collection of about 300 answered questions and that should help with search engines, people looking for answers, creating expert status, etc.

    Boil, Boil, Toil and Trouble

I am still working behind the scenes. All the main ideas I still stand by. However, I realize I have to boil a lot of my marketing content down and that ain’t easy for someone that has done a lot of course training in industry where you had to teach a defined plan in detail or for a person that wants you to get everything without any gaps.

They say we literally now have a shorter attention span than a goldfish in a world where we are inundated with hundreds of thousands of cries for our attention every day.

I am trying to work now thinking more of an old boss I had that all the time was saying, l don’t want to feel the pain, just show me the baby.

My struggle is how do you provide amazing content, not leave any gaps and still make it short enough and density rich enough it will get results?

Results for your prospect/client and you in your business, since this is two sided? (note to Sean, yes, I did get How to kill a unicorn)

So I am putting my marketing material on the stove and boiling it down from a big pot of soup to what I hope is a smaller pot of rich stew.

So far, it smells good, but I don’t know how it will taste when I finish.

It could be burning in the bottom of the pot.

    comments?

    Going Viral

Sean says that to go viral you have to first promote something or how else would people find it to begin with?

That the you don’t have to promote it magic viral programs don’t work.

That items that go viral are content of some sort.

That things go viral from sharing.

    That people share amazing content.

That when people share your content that is like thanking you for having amazing content.

My Christmas Present For The Forum

My gift is the link at the bottom.

So long ago that I am embarrassed by how amateur I feel it is now, I recorded a “Special Story” at the request of a woman that wanted what I said during an office session where she could play it anytime she wanted it. The “Special Story” took on a life of it’s own and much to my embarrassment I became known for it.

I have offered it for a free Christmas present on several of the forums I am on for years now.

I have heard it helped people facing all kinds of problems, health problems, relationship problems and financial problems. The original woman had cancer, but I find it strange that people often thought it was meant for their particular problem. I suppose it is because of our natural tendency to see ourselves and imagine ourselves in books or movies or any story.

I still hear from it every year around this time, someone finds it on some old forum post that is about Christmas and the link is still active.

It may sound a bit childish, but our subconscious mind that is in control of so much of our life operates at the level of a child and it loves a good story.

Just remember that a woman fighting cancer found strength in it and lived much longer than anyone thought was possible and even saw the birth of another grandchild and held him in her arms years after the doctors had give her an impending death sentence. I would like to think it helped.

I present it to you, hoping it might be something that would be of some benefit or amusement, “The Special Story.” Click the color link below.
    The Special Story

    Merry Christmas

More of a Sean teaching today than just a quote

Sean says you can price your products too low. There is a training in particular I remember where he basically says you can price your products too low and then does a fair amount of teaching on it, so it isn’t just a ten word quote.

It makes me think of something my grandfather said.

How cheap do you want to buy hamburger?

I was trying to feed my family for the least possible when I was struggling financially and was talking about how much cheaper hot dogs were at one store and that hamburger was on special for a third less.

He said, How cheap do you want to buy hamburger?

I thought about what he asked for a moment and then I got it.

At some point as the price of hamburger goes down you begin to wonder what is in it.

I think the same is true with our products. At some point people begin to wonder as the price goes down, is there anything good in it?

Sean talks about offering higher priced products early on, even if you don’t expect to sell them, to establish your worth.

If you offer only single digit offers or nothing over $97 for example you will be seen as the bargain basement trainer and won’t appeal to the higher end of the market and probably not the middle.

Someone that pays $100, $200, even $500 for a hair cut or style and $2,000 a month on lawn care won’t think your $7 training is worth the trouble.

If you say, this is the same training on the topic that I teach in my $6,000 or $12,000 total training package, then that puts you into another light. You are seen as being someone that is worth it because you charge it, even if you don’t sell any at first and who knows? Someone may ask for it.

Sean says people that buy the higher priced products don’t complain as much, as for refunds as often and if you are selling higher priced products you can pay more for traffic and still be profitable.

So, how cheap do you want to sell your hamburger?

    best,

Julia, thank you for your response, but honestly I am not far enough along in facebook to understand what you are saying.

When I think I figure something out they change it. Now they are doing popups on my page, oh how I hate that!

    A facebook button?
How do you create a link that stays in place? Like a “sticky” in a forum
    A facebook tab?

If you have time, maybe you could explain and put it down where us goats can get it.

    A Trap We Fall Into

I get these great ideas and honestly, they are really great, based on my experience I know people need it, I write an article or make a product based on it and then no one buys or it just doesn’t come out like I meant for it to come out.

I did that when I started my platform. I knew better and did it again anyway.

You just have this great idea or see a way of doing things and you just dive in with the creative juices flowing and when you get through you have a fabulous result that people need, but aren’t looking for or just don’t get since they are newbies and you are the old pro.

So here is what I am trying to do now.

When I get the brilliant topic, idea or insight, I ask myself what am I going to actually do with it?
What is the outcome I want?

I know whatever I do I have to get people’s attention quickly, find their pain points and hammer them, come across as an expert with solutions, offer at least part of a solution, make them want more and give them a clear action to take to continue.

So I am mending my ways and looking at everything I do in the light of that framework and somehow make it fit…
    while keeping the fantastic idea!

    How Sean Does It

Sean uses this radical process to find answers, he asks questions.

He will tell you that you must have a list and enough people for it to count.

He asks those people questions and some respond with answers. The ones that are active and respond are most likely to be active and buy.

He builds a profile around real people.

In my case, as I suspect with many people here, I used to be my prospect. I got here by having problems and seeking the solution. Now I have the solution and I can offer it to people that still have my old problems. Years ago I was that person and lived that life 24/7. If anything I may be too deep into that lifestyle and problem, since I about froze to death while starving.

More people in my market and especially those that can and will buy are more likely to be concerned about their credit card debt, they don’t have money for retirement or the children’s education, can’t figure out how to pay for Christmas and know the car is getting old and that noise it makes isn’t a good thing, than not having the money for a pack of hot dogs for supper or worry about how to pay for their dying spouse’s heart medicine.

I have two advantages in knowing my prospect that most people don’t, but you might look at them and figure out something that would apply in your case.

    1. I taught what I do now in fast food joints, diners and coffee shops across the state for free at one time. I know who comes to the meetings and figured out how to make the training work.

    2. I still have an office practice. I am not very active in it now, but it used to be all I did. I know who comes in, what they complain about and figured out that in almost every case the problem they say they have is not the problem they need to fix. The problem they complain about is usually a manifestation of the problem that is at the bottom of their trouble. This makes things a bit tricky, since you may have to advertise for one thing to get people you help with another thing and keep them happy in the process.

Take a war veteran for example. They might come in wanting to quit drinking or doing drugs and say I am an addict. The real problem may be they have PTSD and are self medicating. They don’t do alcohol or drugs to get high, they do them to numb the pain.

To really know your prospect, you have to see beyond the story they present. In many cases if they really understood their problem they would have fixed it, but you still have to work with them with what they present or they won’t think you can help them.

hope in someway this gives people some ideas,

What May Be The Most Important Thing To Understand About This Business

I am gong to edit a bit and paraphrase just a little since this goes long in the training, but I think Sean will agree I didn’t change his message.

“Regardless of what you may have heard somewhere or some get rich quick program someone sold you, no one is going to just give you money on the internet, that is not a business, No one goes into a hamburger joint and just gives them money. You must have something people want and will buy.”

He goes on to say that people buy things that change their lives. You are hungry and a hamburger will change that, so hungry people will buy hamburgers, it changes their lives. You are thirsty and a bottle of water will change that, so thirsty people will buy bottles of water, it changes their lives.

Of course people can lie and you will just think they have something that changes lives, but that isn’t the basis of long term or repeat business.

I invite Sean to comment if he wishes.

    My Quote For Today

The Sean Mize quote I am thinking of today is “Anyone Can Coach.”
It is more than the title to a book.

I read an article earlier this year where that “Primary Skills Coaches” start out at $50-$55k and went up for an annual salary.

What is a Primary Skills Coach? Someone that goes to your child’s daycare and teaches them to tie their shoes.
Yes, we have shoe tying coaches.
They also will teach your child colors and their left from right and I am sure a few other things.

If there are shoe tying coaches, isn’t there something you can coach on?

I teach that if you don’t have skills or special knowledge (like how to tie shoes?) that if you have an interest in something that is of value.
My daughter had an interest in the medical field and she turned that into skills and a job as a clinical coordinator with a major medical provider.

So if there isn’t something you can coach (come on, can you tie shoes and water plants?) there is some interest you have you can apply and get skills.

What Sean Mize quote is on your mind today?

    Follow Up

I couldn’t stand it this morning, I had to call Skyler.

Skyler I know you do this and the team does it all day and I guess it gets old, I don’t want to bother you, but I just wanted to call and tell you, I know it is a team and you have a big part and others that work with Dr. Wang too, but he nailed it. My eye started coming back on line Thanksgiving and last night I could see the detail on the moon. I can see the seams in the siding on my neighbors houses and read the for sale sign across the road. No halos, no unusual glare. I can see like I did thirty years ago. Clocks, license plates, from eight feet on I have it. I have a far eye to go with my near eye now like we wanted. Would you pass that on?

Her reply: “Wow Scott, I am so happy, are you kidding bother me, we live for this! I try to work through problems for people all day and its Monday and we are starting all over again as people try to get in before Christmas and the end of the year and I get a good news call! I will take calls like this all day! That is wonderful! I am so happy!… Now we will see you the 11th for the second procedure on your right eye, if anything changes let me know, you have your medications and your list…..(She had my chart and went right back to being Skyler and I am laughing out loud.)

Obsession! I think it is catching!

    Confused

    Don,
First off, thank you for your reply.
I may be confused and severely need a tune up myself. I don’t consider it a landing page. I look at it as a content page and part of the platform. Sort of like what Sean is doing here, but I may be off track.

I consider a landing page to be somewhere you usually send traffic to in order to get someone to sign up to your list so they can get a free offer.
It is any page you send someone to and they land on for a specific purpose, usually to get them to sign up.
    Similar to a squeeze page.

I am looking at putting ads and or offers on all the pages that would send them to a squeeze page.

Are you talking about the home page or the quick start page, or something else?
Raises the question what is the difference in a landing page and a squeeze page?

    Could you elaborate?

Thanks again, you may have pointed out something I have messed up,

    Sean,
I like the course where you link one page with lessons to another page with lessons and you can navigate forward and backward with the links and the content links are on each page.

In the food service company my wife and I quit.

    Many times.

Just never at the same time.

    Five are Live!

All five sessions are up and live!

Big effort to get it done before my surgery and Thanksgiving, but I thought I had to or lose momentum and continuity in the recordings.

    Comment if you like.

I don’t expect people to obsess over my website, a lot of this is being able to use this thread as an accountability device.

Still, I would appreciate your opinions and ideas…

    Turning Point

    That is great Tina!

There is always a turning point that you can look back at and say, “That is where my life changed.”

I have had an office practice for years and overall, it is a pain.

The schedule is overloaded, then the schedule is empty.

This client’s check bounced, that client canceled, those two didn’t show up.

This client will pay next session for this session, but there is no next session.

This client can’t pay at all.

This client came in to stop smoking and now I found out it is crack they are smoking!

I could go on and on.

I have wanted to take my practice online for years, but I am so set in my ways, I want to see you, see you breathe, hand you a water bottle and see what happens, read your body language, shake your hand, feel your grip, watch your eyes. I have worked one on one so much in my work, it is foreign to think of any other way. I have done a lot of group work, but still that is different and still in person. So I have been anxious about doing this.

I have this colleague that does wonderful work online and she studied under the legends and says, “Scott you are great, I would see you if I needed someone and there are only two or three people I would even consider. Get over it. Just do it!”

Now is the time, this is the place, the boats are on fire.

best wishes to you and all the rest

Sort of using this topic thread for an accountability device.

Just finished recording the last two introductory sessions.

Have a lot of editing to do to take out the coughs and such, I am struggling with allergies.

Hopefully this evening I can get that done. It is easier to record when the house is empty and I can edit with headphones tonight
while the grandson plays swat in the hall with his police, soldiers and matchbox cars and the wife is blending ice cubes in the blender for her diet shakes.

    Keep the comments coming!

    Thanks to all

    A Few More Minor Changes

Made the three steps page picture and logo smaller, Added a quick start button with pointing hands.

May put a quick start link higher up on the home page.

Don’t have much more time this morning.

Please continue with your comments and suggestions,

    Thanks to all!

    Adding and Changing

I just put the third session up on line.

I have been following some of your suggestions. I did change the picture and logo, but I am thinking with frame spacing I probably need to make a graphic with both that I have better control over and use that. It will be easier to duplicate the result if it is just one image.
I did add part one, two, three in the link titles.

I added audio program as text with a little more of a description. I will probably dig up or make an audio graphic too.

This is my last full day before the surgery, so I have some other things I have to do. Hope to at least record the last two sessions today.

Here is where I am in the strategy: Build the platform and fill it up with a decent amount of content and a few offers. Next send the traffic.

There is a lot to this, but Google wasn’t built in a day 😉

Thanks and please feel free to continue to comment

    Music

I make my own music for many of my projects, but there is a royalty free music site : http://incompetech.com/music/

Free music to use for pretty much any purpose. Youtube background, program intros, etc.

Check it out if you are looking for music.

    Update

Session 2 is up on the website now.

    Three to go.

I would appreciate your opinion on the look of the page with the picture and logo, if the session links work and what impressions you have from the recordings.

    Update PS

I am working on my first coaching program too. I thought I had Sean’s book, Anyone Can Coach around here, but can’t find it.
I suppose I will order a copy (or maybe another copy) today.

I plan on running through it all live once and then doing it as the recording with regular access to me.

Heck, I don’t know how to do this, no one knows how to do anything the first time, until they do it.

I am just going to pretend I have a small group of people in my office and treat the ones on the call like that.

    Slave/Child Labor

The slave/child labor issue is a tough one and complicated.

I have been places where they ended child labor and the children starved, at least they fed them before. Now they have no use for them and in some cases even kill them when the factories or sweatshops are shut down.

When you end child labor and cut the legs out from under the table, you had better have some new legs in place to support the table.

Reminds me of a zoo in a developing country where tourists were taking pictures of endangered species animals that looked in very poor condition. The country was getting complaints, so they just killed the endangered animals, no more embarrassing pictures.

I am friends with several families from India and in touch with a local missionary there, what we call slave labor wages here may be making a family middle or upper class in that particular area.

It is a tough issue in a tough world, where in some countries people often maim children so they are more effective beggars.

I had an android virtual assistant, which is quite different than having a person, but it is amazing how they are advancing. I bought the lifetime subscription and of course, they soon closed the company.

I could be writing an article on the laptop and vocally asking it on the tablet to find information on things pertaining to the subject. Was a help in time saving and efficiency for research.

Of course we have Apple, Google and Microsoft to use their Artificial Intelligence, but it is creepy when you just want to know something about diabetes for something you are writing and then everywhere you go they market diabetic medication to you for a month.

I make mine in Get Response. They have templates and are still pretty flexible.

I never send someone from traffic directly to my squeeze page. I send them to a page on my website and redirect them to the squeeze page, that way I can change autoresponders and just about everything. I have the power to redirect them to anywhere I want, I still control the flow.

The redirect is so fast it hardly blinks, even if you know, you may miss it.

    Thank you Kristin!

I don’t mean to keep you waiting, but I realized that the material I used to introduce my in person classes just wasn’t working for introducing the platform.

I now have about twelve and a half thousand words total in five sessions to introduce the platform, me, why I care and the Three Steps To Wealth. I think it is some of my best work. I have locked it down, not more changes.

Between the wife kidnapping me today and taking me and my checkbook Christmas shopping and being in poor voice, I haven’t recorded them yet.

She knows I am having surgery next week, so she wants to get this done while I can haul the presents around and balance the check book! LOL

The Three Steps are Simple, the rest is just to have daily prodding and motivation to keep you on track 😉

Wishing you and the rest, the very best
    and a happy, happy Thanksgiving!

Of course you have to do what works for you, but I don’t like to let an opportunity pass me by.

I had a fair practice as a life coach and Christian hypnotist at one time before I started promoting a counseling center and I used a marketing calendar. New Year’s resolutions brought them in, then relationships for Valentine’s day, etc. Match your bait with what they are biting or go fishless they say.

I personally like the idea of a new year and a new start. So many times we fail the first time we try something, so if it isn’t parachute jumping, try again until you succeed.

Thanks Sean, it looks like a bank transfer is going to work about as well as anything. I have a company that has inquired about paying for a series of sessions for their employees. Working out the details, but it looks good. Will have to physically go there to do it. No body does checks anymore it seems.
    Having said that…
I did get a check for over 10k recently and the bank held it over a week. Glad I didn’t have expenses against it I had to cover.

Good to know about the paypal flags.

Would be nice to have some end of the year money, but you can’t count your chickens until they come home to roost or is it a rolling stone is still rolling until it stops and brings money to your pocket? I forget…

    happy Thursday!

Of course there are unhealthy obsessions.

There was a movie some years ago titled Magnificent Obsession where a playboy became a doctor and obsessed with helping people after an incident he felt he was to blame for.

Helping others would be a good thing to be obsessed with, within reason.

I often say about fanatical Christians, you can’t be too Christian, but you can be too fanatical…

    Bob,
Since I joined this group I have noticed I hardly ever look at the news. I also noticed that I hardly ever read any of the other marketer’s emails I get. I am more focused on what I am doing here and in my business. I have a few email addresses I use for just signing up to people’s lists, but some of them have leaked over to my main email addresses. I was just thinking about pruning those lists the other day, now that you mention it.

    Kristen,
You may have something there about the holding off on teaching the steps, but I know from experience that if you start with the financial information first it never works. I have a more captive audience in my practice or group training.

Maybe I come out with the steps more in the beginning and then tell them I found it doesn’t work without the psychology and the exercises and that I will get more into the steps after I touch on that.

The stories teach a lot and set up for the information.

I am thinking about Napoleon Hill and Think and Grow Rich. He says he can’t come right out and tell the person the secrets to success, but they are hidden in every chapter.

Here is a question, you might be unhappy if I didn’t revel the steps in the first recording, but would you be curious enough to continue?

Thanks for the reply and kind words,
You gave me some things to think about.
