Hi, June. It seems no site is totally immune from hacking these days, but keeping your WordPress installation and your plugins up to date will go a long way. Always ensure you’re running the newest version of all the software.
You used to need to update WordPress manually, but now it happens automatically, so that helps. Just go into the plugin area of your dashboard to keep that updated, too.
WordPress also comes with a password generator that will rate the security of your passwords. Choosing complex passwords helps to secure your site.
I have been working with WordPress for years and love it. So versatile and powerful!

@ Dana – Yes, I do use dictation for the iPhone notes app. My notes are usually shorter than the articles, etc. I need to dictate.
@ Bruce – I do still write by hand quite a bit, but I’m dealing with distortion so things are quite messy until my eyes get better.
@ Don – Thanks for the Google Docs tip. I had no idea. It works quite well though. I’ll definitely use that.

“And a Section where you can advertise your coaching, products, etc”
Would this be the place to advertise that we are looking for JV’s? I think it would be great if we could recommend each other’s products to our lists, as we get to know each other.
I have met and friended several people, but I have no idea what some folks do, since they haven’t completed their profile pages.
Perhaps, as Kristin mentioned, we could use a Networking section for those who are interested in promoting each other’s work. Or maybe a JV section?

One of the best insights into the development of good habits that I’ve seen came from the book Uncertainty: Turning Fear and Doubt Into Fuel for Brilliance by Jonathan Fields. His theory is that creative people have so much uncertainty in their lives, “Will people buy my product? What if people criticize my work?” etc., that they need rock solid habits in their everyday lives to allow for the uncertainty in their creative lives. Hence people like Steve Jobs and Dean Kamen adopting a uniform of sorts, wearing the same clothes by habit, so they can free their minds for creative thought. Brilliant!!
That said, all my good business habits are out the window right now due to my uncertain eyeballs (as I recover from recent surgery.)
I organize in notebooks. I use Post-its but don’t trust them for important things. They fall down behind the furniture etc.

Hi Bruce. My opinion is that you should promote your writing site here. I think our bottom line is that we want to promote each other in business and the ghost writing site seems to be where your intent is to make money.
But, having seen them both, the psych hacks site is more fun to read! 🙂

Bruce, I’m also a fan of Duhigg’s The Power of Habit, but made the mistake of buying it on Kobo. So, no charts or illustrations and a pain to read. I’ve got to dig up a physical copy somewhere and re-read it.

If you check your profile page you can see any friend requests that come your way, so there’s another value in checking your profile page occasionally. I have some requests out there and am wondering why I haven’t had too many responses yet. (sniffs armpits).
I’m still not sure though, what “friending” accomplishes. More information would be nice.

So thankful for a new day today and a chance to make a difference. I’m part of a meeting later this evening to plan fund raising for a plumber friend who is going to Zambia to work on wells, etc. at the hospital/nursing school complex where he and his wife worked as missionaries years ago. She was director of the nursing school So thankful to have such amazing people in my life!

So, friends, what do you have on your plate for today today?
I want to code the sales pages for my next Inspirational Graphics Pack, Gratitude themed quote images for social media and blog posts. I am limited in what I can do because I had eye surgery last week and can barely see. So frustrating. Emails and text, I can dictate, but I’m not sure if I can get the sales pages done.
Let me know what you’re up to and we’ll check in later to report on our progress.

I think the Friends functionality of the site might be a way that we can give feedback and support to each other as individuals. I’m guessing there should be a capability for private messaging built in. Not in an effort to be exclusive, but just as a way to talk to each other.
For example, I might make a comment on the forum, but there isn’t a way to know if the person actually saw it. I also might not be able to find it again to see if there was a reply. This is likely a flaw in the software, but it’s still better to speak directly sometimes.

@ Steve – Thanks for the link tip. I always code html this way, but didn’t think about doing this with a pdf. It isn’t a problem if you open it in Adobe Acrobat, but lots of folks open pdf’s in a browser where it does cause an issue. I’ll check out a fix. Nice to meet another Allen!

Scott, if you can find the people who want to hear what you have to say, it doesn’t really matter.
Personally, I find live webinars frustrating… “Oh look… Frankie from Minneapolis is signing in…,” and wait for the replay. But I do believe they convert better, as has been stated.

I like Don’s comment about overlap. How does this sound? – “Staying Healthy and Fit as You Get Older.”
I’m guessing these are both important topics to you because you have your own “skin in the game,” as they say. We are all getting older and we all want to be healthy and fit.
Sometimes, too, you need to drill down and get very specific about who your target market is. You could certainly target active senior women who want to stay healthy. It’s a HUGE market.

Hi Claire. I’ve had some success with affiliate marketing, mostly promoting PLR products. There are two things that stand out.
One is that you need to be super organized. I used to use a spreadsheet for this but now I use Airtable – http://normaesler.com/airtable – which is a free online database program with paid options. (And yes, that’s an affiliate link, but you can use it for free.)
The second thing is that you need to be consistent in your mailing to get the best results. I have had eye trouble and had to take a break and my list lost some of its responsiveness. Snooze, you lose out.
I agree with Suzanne about promoting only the best from the most ethical producers. It just makes sense.

I work in the homeschooling niche, too. (French as a Second Language Curriculum – http://nallenart.com – since 1995!) If you already have contacts there, why not build it roll it out to them first and get the bugs out before you go wide?
Just my first thoughts. Build it for a wider audience, but offer it first to HS’ers?
