Yesterday: I released the new functionality, Member Tutorials, and that made the day a success!
and had a great chat with someone who really stretched my mind on some capacity issues, while my wife and friend were skiing . .
plus I still got to get a few bump runs in afterwards!
And have a long talk with a good friend about a crisis he’s going through . . .
That made for a great day yesterday!
Today, I have 5 scheduled consults or classes, so hoping at least 5 people’s lives will be changed today!

thanks for sharing, and I take full responsibility that folks haven’t been participating as much lately . . . it usually takes a firestarter to kick things off strong and over the holidays (Christmas and New Years) I haven’t been firestarting here in the Forum.
I imagined it would be a place where folks would ask questions of each other etc, and comment on the things they are learning on my weekly Coaching Calls, and other things . . .and perhaps there aren’t as many questions right now.
And of course I haven’t been asking any either . . . so you taking the time to ask a question is great!
I’m sorry you’ve felt pressured to participate . . this really is designed to be somewhere where folks willingly help when they want to, and others ask questions when they want to.
I’ve been watching that kind of thing, and thinking that a few little tweaks . . so that there is a distinction between people who need help and people who are offering it . . . might help things . . .
it’s like everyone is supposed to need help – and also offer help . . but in reality, that may not be the case as much as I thought!
Les, I’ll be doing something big here soon, nearly ready to put finishing touches on it . . . and I think when I do, participation will go up soon!
But please don’t feel obligated to participate – just help when you want to, and ask questions if you have one!

so here’s something interesting to think about . . .
what if we navigate away from the idea of a blog, and instead think of it as a website . . .
yes, a small distinction . . .
but if you have a blog with 1000 posts
or a website with a 1000 posts . . .
it’s really all about the content actually changing lives, having ideas within it that change minds.
I think about the blogs, websites, emails I read regularly . . . and they are the ones that I learn something from, that personally engage ME.
of course, not everyone would be engaged by the same things that interest me, but that’s the idea.
A blog is driven by the engagement of readers . . . and that engagement is driven by the “interestingness” of the content in the blog, to the intended audience.
So when the content is more interesting to the audience, there will be more likelihood of engagement and virality, but when the content is “same old, same old” rehashed or repeated, then engagement goes down.

I applaud you for being so aggressive!
When you first get started, there’s a place for going all-in, and working really hard, then over time you apply 80-20 to the work you are doing and find out what’s most effective, so you can scale back some on the least productive work (which you won’t discover until you are “in it”)

There’s one thing to keep in mind about ALL productivity systems:
1) You have to find out WHICH system works for YOU. Some things work for me but not you, some things work for you but not me.
the second thing to know is this:
YOU must FIRST be committed to making whatever it is, work . .
You see, NO productivity system will work if you aren’t committed to the work you are doing . .

here’s a starter list:
Take a look at their site (pull it up during your meeting)
ask them:
what do you like best about it?
What is the one thing you would improve on it?
How important is having your site up and running to you?
How important is it to your customers, to having it up and running?
Would you be interested in adding a daily special to the site, and encouraging folks to connect via facebook?
Would you be interested in having an email list or facebook list of people who eat at your restaurant so you can invite them back, let them know about a new menu item, etc.
And now to you, Julie, what are 3 more relevant questions you could add to this list?

Hey, folks, thanks for taking the time to discuss this!
I want to reopen discussion on this with a particular question:
Do you want me to reinstate the contest board?
Or is it actually better without it?
Here’s what happened, and I was concerned is was hurting some folks participation, the ones who needed it the most:
the initial contest was designed to get 10-12 folks really motivated to post and compete . . but once there were only 2 real competitors I began to see evidence that many others who weren’t on the top begin to feel as though they couldn’t contribute.
And in the fact, the truth is, those who felt that way are the ones who MOST needed to contribute.
This is designed to help the MOST not the few, and I’m concerned that the leaderboard was favoring the few . . .
I know this community isn’t perfect yet . . but my dream is for participation to be a key, key area, and the contest element no longer felt good to me . .
So would love to hear some more opinions on this!

you are both right.
averages are rarely accurate for any human.
Some people can make things a habit in 2 weeks, like Malik!
Others need 200 days.
Both are likely outliers, the average person being perhaps around the 70 day mark like you said, Bruce.
But one thing we have to be careful of is that when we strive for the average . . . we hit the average 🙂
Sometimes it’s too easy to be swayed by averages . . . .
And remarkable people say, what do I want to do, even if it means I buck the average . .

I like your comment here . . . I would agree that the marketing should almost be a result of whatever the product need is . . and if that happens to be something more women would need, then the marketing would be female leading, and vice versa . . .
One thing I’ve also seen is male/female split testing . .
so for example, a weight loss product . . . men will convert higher to a different set of words and language than women . .
so then if you have a page that asks, are you a man or a woman, then based on the answers serves the appropriate page . . your spit test results will be different and over time, the pages will morph on their own.
or . . if you follow Beverly Taylor and her gender-brain science, you can cut right to the quick and write to men or to women, then conversion optimize from there

You are so right . . .when you focus on the problems of certain folks, they do tend to have a demographic. . . but I personally find that working with the similarities of problems works better than working on demographics!

This is interesting . . .
what is failure?
is it that our squeeze page didn’t convert like we wanted it to . . .
or when folks read the giveaway it didn’t make a difference?
Are we defining failure as trying something that doesn’t quite work . . and that is failure?
To me, failure is not taking the action of CREATING the squeeze page and then telling as many people as possible . .
and this is just one example of hundreds . . .
can you folks think of more examples of what failure really is . . . rather than how we perceive it when a marketing piece doesn’t work just right?

One advantage to using a membership site to deliver everything, if it integrates your payment system, is that it’s all in one place.
One challenge I see in this market – and I’ve fallen into it as well, is choosing a cart, using it for awhile, then choosing something else that is better, using it for awhile, then choosing something better . . and on and on.
What happens is that 10 years down the road you have 10 carts, and products all over the place . . .
Unless there is a compelling, really strong, compelling reason to leave or change – not just a single hot feature . .
I advise building up on one platform as much as possible.
Of course, that’s not one size fits all – if you are losing sales, or the payment processing isn’t robust, or business-threatening issues like that are happening . .
Then of course you would make a change!

if a link doesn’t work to something, you can always google the name, if it’s still a valid service, it will usually come up in google.
if not, move on . .
Sometimes one of the keys to finding solutions is in being able to quickly ignore irrelevant information and move on, without killing the resource itself!

I don’t use an avatar or ideal customer.
Instead, I focus exclusively on certain problems or needs and simply state the problem that is.
If someone has that problem – whether they are old or young, male or female, 8 children or none – I expect they should want to receive the solution to said problem.

Jennifer, I love your discussion about the unique hook . . and that’s so true!
Branding with our unique experience and unique angle allows us to charge more . .
But it also allows us to create trust such that folks who buy from you will apply themselves more and therefore get better results . . . even if your knowledge isn’t better! (Of course if it is, all the more the better) – but there is a psychological component to folks taking action and getting results – and some of that emanates from their belief and trust in you.
