I didn’t sign up.
The disconnect for me is that the offer doesn’t match the domain name.
The domain name tells me that what you offer is about affiliate sales.
The freebie doesn’t mention it.
So I’m not sure if I’m getting a blueprint for how to make affiliate sales, or do something else online.

Couple things, Dana.
First, when you think of something, make a note and put it in your note-box where you keep all your ideas and things that you know you have to get to.
Then get back to the task at hand.
When you finish it, then look into your note-box and decide what the next thing is that you should work on; that is, if you don’t know.
Second thing – I ask this a lot: When was the last time you had a vacation of 9 days or more.
A vacation means no business email, no business phone calls, no business networking, no business commenting. Nothing.
Just vacation.
You see, when you find it difficult to concentrate, sometimes that’s an indication that you just need to recharge your batteries.

And for those of you who don’t understand the “bleeding neck” metaphor, it’s something that John Paul Mendocha talks about with Perry Marshall.
If you’ve ever been to the ER, then you’ve probably noticed that the doctor didn’t see you in the order that you arrived.
That’s because they use a system called a triage.
A triage – the “tri” makes me think that it’s three categories – is a means for identifying who needs to see a doctor right now, who can wait for a little while without dying, and who is annoyed because their pizza was delivered cold.
If you’re neck is bleeding, it probably means that your carotid artery needs some attention.
Those are the people you want to help.
They’re the ones who are desperate. 😉

Thinking autonomously is not a habit that I’ve used for a long time.
I had it when I was writing a book and working on the PhD, but now I only do my deepest thinking when someone asks me a question.
The better the question; the deeper the thoughts. 😉

It really depends on whether or not your newsletter contains more value than your emails.
It should.
Most people don’t have the time to read a newsletter length email every day.
Besides, you can deal with a topic at a much deeper level in a newsletter.
And people are more likely to read it because it’s less frequent; unlike an email which may arrive daily.
So in a way, it’s the wrong question.
The right question is why do you send emails, and how would a newsletter deliver more or better value?

I’ve struggled with the “T” as well.
In fact, I don’t use it.
I’ve learned that I’m not a very good judge of how long things take.
Tasks typically take me a lot longer to do, and I have no control over the results.
SMART assumes that you do.
It’s a myth.
So you have to commit yourself to a path, and then stay with it long enough for it to produce the results you want.
And it may be that it will take three months or six months for you to get enough exposure to determine that it isn’t working.
But every entrepreneur has to discover what that length of time is for him / her.
It will be different for you.

All of us need to do more of what you’ve suggested, Madhushan.
But you’ve pinpointed the problem yourself.
You’ve been doing it for less than a month.
Keep on doing what you’re doing for six months, and then think about how much traffic you’re getting.
It’s too early right now to expect the kind of results that you’re looking for.

Diana, you have to repurpose your content.
That means you have to put it into as many different forms as you can.
You could create a presentation and upload it to SlideShare.
You could take the same slides and narrate them, and then save them as MP4, and upload them to YouTube.
You could put all your posts on Mention. Google won’t penalize you for duplicate content. Don’t know why, but Mention is a newcomer that I’ve seen recommended by places like CopyBlogger.
You also need quantity.
There seems to be quite a number of people who think that if they write one article, that that’s enough to bring in a flood of visitors.
You need a minimum of 50 high quality posts just to get noticed.
And hey: I’m preaching to myself here, too. 🙂

Why Beaver Builder is so good.
There are two things that I really like about Beaver Builder.
The first is that I can make my sites look the way I want them to.
All WordPress websites have the same layout.
You can spot them a mile away.
I didn’t want that.
The second thing is that I”m not an engineer. I’m a writer and a psychologist.
So technical stuff is a real challenge.
(I could have you rolling in the aisles telling you about the mishaps I’ve encountered trying to fix things.)
I certainly haven’t used all of the themes or page builders that are available, but I’ve looked at a lot of them, and my general impression is that the more flexibility you want, the more CSS and JS you’d better know.
Beaver Builder obviates all of that.
And their tech support is really good.
They will give me the extra code that I need and, tell me where it needs to go.
I may have mentioned this before, but I also use the BB theme.
The plugin is the page builder, but every website has to have a theme; and it made sense to me to get a theme that I knew would work with the plugin.

It’s all relative.
Perfectionists are never satisfied.
They also accomplish far less than those who aren’t.
Ironic, don’t you think?
You all use a computer.
Do you know how the Windows operating system was developed?
As I understand it, Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer persuaded somebody that they could solve a particular problem.
Now get this: They wrote the code on the plane as they were flying to the meeting.
What if they would have said, “Well. It’s not perfect, so I guess we can’t make the meeting.”
Maybe you use a Mac.
What if Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniack decided that they couldn’t launch their first computer because the software wasn’t perfect?
Now apply that to what you’re working on.

Hi Dejan,
Nice to have you with us.
Ask yourself this question: Based on the emails that I’ve received in the past 30 days, what’t the worst thing that could happen if I didn’t check my email until after supper?
Same thing for a YouTube video or a blog post.
Then ask yourself this: What is the one thing I could accomplish today if I worked on it and nothing else?
You have to see the problem for what it is.
The thing is that you’re getting a hit, a buzz, a reward by avoiding your work.
And somehow you have to feel intense pain instead.
Spend some time thinking about what you’ve deprived yourself of because you chose to be entertained instead of working.

Malik, that’s a trickier problem.
It could be that what you need to do is get a baby-sitter, and then go to a quiet place in the house to work.
Tell the sitter than unless it’s an emergency, you’re not to be disturbed.
If there is no quiet place in the house, then maybe you need to go somewhere that is.
But those constant interruptions will stop you from making progress.

Absolutely right, Sean.
Now here’s something that most people miss.
I did for a long time.
When we look at other people’s businesses, what we’re seeing are solutions.
That’s why it’s so hard to find a problem to solve.
We’re not looking at problems to begin with.
We’re looking at solutions.
So you have to exercise a kind of reverse thinking.
You have to ask yourself what problem they were trying to solve, and then think about why that was a problem.
For example, Uber provides an on-call taxi service.
Does that means that there weren’t taxis?
Not usually, though where I live you can’t get one at certain times of the day unless you reserve one in advance.
With Uber, you don’t have to do that.
And you’re not trapped in some kind of cartel where all the prices are fixed.
The UK has practically banned Uber; but you’d expect that because it’s a socialist society. Despite all the propaganda about creating an innovative society, this country really doesn’t want one.
The point is that you have to get in the habit of thinking about the problems that other people in your niche solved.
Then you can look at your list of problems and ask yourself what problem remains unsolved.

Virality comes from shareability.
What matters is the content, not the platform.
Any platform can have content that goes viral, but it’s not the platform that makes it so.
I know that a lot is made of backlinks.
To me, most people get this backwards.
Backlinks come as a result of quality content.
Trying to get them without widely promoting quality content is like trying to lose weight without following a diet; or trying to get in shape by reading about it.

The one thing I have to be really careful of, and we all do Tina, is to make sure that people who don’t know me aren’t confused by what is said in the signature.
We’ve all heard about presenting prospects with just one thing.
I’m still struggling with this to a certain extent.
A friend of mine, who made a full-time income as a ghostwriter (before becoming a coach), is helping me with this.
Case in point.
He asked me what three things I was an expert in.
There were six things.
Two of them had several facets, all of which were related, not only the sub-categories, but the two main categories.
I’m struggling to explain it, and if I’m having that much trouble, prospects haven’t got a chance.
The Mindful Writer is an attempt to blend the two together.
Maybe what I need is a strapline that explains what that means: something like “deep and persuasive copy.”

Bob,
I hear all the time about how fierce the competition is.
Sean may disagree with me, and I’d be interested in his comments, but I think that it’s a bunch of baloney.
Why?
Because more people aren’t connected to the Internet than who are.
Now you could argue that the people who aren’t connected live in third world countries, and you’d be right, but you’d be amazed at how many mobile phones, for example, people own in these countries.
If you own a smartphone, then an internet connection is possible.
And what language are these people learning?
English.
Where I do think that things are saturated is in the kinds of solutions that are available and the marketing methods that are used.
There doesn’t seem to be much innovation there.
And there’s a good reason for that, too.
It’s because everyone is copying everyone else.
You’re an English teacher, so you know what good writing looks like.
You also know that a lot of books are published every day; maybe more than ever.
If there ever was a place where the competition is fierce, then it’s in the book trade.
So why are there still bestsellers from authors that no one ever heard of?
It’s because those people produced something that all the other authors didn’t.
Good marketing has a lot to do with it; but if you market junk, it still won’t be a bestseller.
My point is that you have to focus on creating something that is better than what anyone else has done.
(Where have we heard that before?)
But better doesn’t necessarily mean bigger, or more of the same.
Rather, it means that it solves the problems that people are having better than what’s currently available.
Is this hard?
Absolutely.
If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.
And that’s the problem.
Everyone is doing what’s easy.

Hi Les,
Here’s my suggestion.
You won’t like it.
Look for a part-time job that pays enough to keep the wolf from the door.
This will do two things.
One is that it will keep you from stressing about money.
When you worry about that sort of thing, it can interfere with your ability to concentrate.
For some, knowing that you’ll be hanged in the morning concentrates the mind wonderfully. 😉
But for others, it causes paralysis.
The second thing it will do is force you to have a schedule.
Working for yourself requires a lot of personal discipline.
If you lose that discipline, then sometimes the best thing that can happen to you is to be in a position where you have to conform to someone else’s.
I don’t know if downsizing is possible for you, but that’s another way to reduce your expenses.
