It’s been said that as you get older, time goes faster.

I have to tell you that if it goes any faster than it does, I won’t have to get up in the morning.

Instead, I’ll just reset the alarm. 😉

Speaking of alarms, I tried something today, and it worked.

I set the alarm for 30 minutes of reading this morning and was absolutely amazed at how fast it went.

Then I set it for the next activity, and then the next.

So instead of drifting “comfortably” from one thing to the next, I actually got some work done: a 2100-word article for a client.

    Hurray!

Unless we’re your customers, Kristin, our opinions don’t matter.

Split-testing has to be done on your website by your visitors.

You’re autoresponder should have a feature that will automatically switch between the two. Then after 500-1000 people have signed up, the results will mean something.

I haven’t tried them, but if Tina and Malik can get them to work, then I would expect them to work for me.

What’s the download speed on your connection?

Also, have you tried to listen to them at a public library or someplace else where computers are connected to the Internet?

I still have yet to look at all of them, but the one that caused me to grab the article for this forum was the story of Angela Luna who created several jackets that, when zipped differently, became tents.

She felt compelled to do something for the people she saw in the Grecian refugee camps.

    Hi Kristin,

You need to change the font color. Dark blue would be better, if you don’t like black.

Five percent of men are color-blind. I know this because my father was.

He used to tell me that red looked gray.

So gray words on a white background would be almost unreadable.

The easiest way to upload large files is to do it via your server.

Log into your cPanel and then go to FileManager.

If you don’t know what to do, then contact tech support at your host.

It’s what I’ve done, and I’ve had to do it more than once to get the hang of it.

    Cute thank you page!

You need to change the title of your squeeze page. “Plain” isn’t like to be something that anyone will search for; at least not the people that you’re looking for.

Also, if you’re not a techy, then you’ll struggle with MailChimp. It’s why I quit using it. I was spending more time trying to get it to work that I was using it. And I wasn’t impressed with their tech support either.

MailerLite will give you a free account with unlimited emails for up to 1000 subscribers, and after that they cost half of what AWeber charges.

    Hi Sean,

I know about just the sort of thing you described, Susan.

And for some of us, we can’t concentrate if there’s too much chaos around us.

That said, pottering around the house is simply another name for being distracted.

That may be a good argument for going to a coffee shop or a library to work for a couple of hours. The distractions are less.

It’s also why it’s a good idea to go away for your holidays.

When you stay home, you don’t rest. Instead you notice all the things that you think you should do.

You’re right, Jennifer, about less talk and more results.

That seems to hold true in a lot of things.

There are those who quietly get on with the task of doing the work and making progress, and the others who talk about their big plans, but for whom nothing ever materializes.

Writers rarely talk about their writing, for example. It’s not that they’re not excited about their work. They are. Instead, it’s that if they articulate what they’re doing to someone, doing so can take some of the “magic” out of it that seems to happen when you put “pen to paper.”

The place where we want the magic to happen is on the page. We can tell you about it later. 😉

There is some of that, Jen. But in the first 10 days, nearly everyone was participating almost every day. Now it’s down to about a dozen; maybe less.

Some have dropped off the radar altogether.

One thing I’ve noticed with myself, and maybe this is true of others, is that as I get to know people there are some that I really connect with.

A couple of weeks ago, some of us were talking about forming into Master Mind groups, and I can see already that if such groups were created, there are certain people that I would like to be with.

One way that you can keep track of the threads that interest you, Julia, is to click Favorite, which is on the top, right side of the original post.

The word Favorite will change to Favorited.

Then on the Pal Core Access page, if you scroll to the bottom, you can click on the Favorites link. You’ll then see a list of all the threads that interest you.

    It’s pretty clever.

You would enjoy the book, The One Thing, by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan.

My one thing – that upon which everything hinges – is . . . wait for it . . . getting to bed on time the night before.

And I can’t tell you how difficult that is.

Part of it, I’m sure, is because most of people I interact with online are in the US, and I live in the UK. And the one guy that I chat with in the UK is a night owl. LOL

    Not entirely sure, Julia.

    Partly what Malik referred to.

Seems like a lot more people were active in the first 10 days than have been of late; but it’s also what he said about waiting to see what happens next.

I know what you mean about a book with a few sentences and a lot of lines.

Personally, I’m put off by them. I feel like I’m buying a pad of paper. LOL

That said, there are other ways to create a workbook.

You could, for example, tell a story that illustrates the point you’re trying to make, and then tell people to take out a sheet of paper, or their tablet, or computer and then write down their ideas to . . . – and then list your questions.

Then the workbook becomes a kind of supplement to the main book and, in fact, you could market it as such.

You could create it in a diary form: one small daily task. Think of the little books you’ve seen with pithy comments, a thought for the day, and a question.

You could append the workbook content at the end of each chapter in your ebook, and then charge more for it, but less than if people bought the two separately. Then, in the product description, you could spell out the differences between the two.

Some people will prefer to have it all in one. Others will opt to have them separate.

    What do you think?

    Hi Susan,

My heart goes out to you.

And you’re right: I’ve never had OCD.

But I did have a breakdown almost 12 years ago. Couldn’t get out of bed until 3.30 pm. As the meds took hold, it became noon; the mid-morning, and eventually 6 am, but not without a 90-minute paralytic nap at 9 am.

With that came a certain amount of anxiety.

I was also living in Italy, and I didn’t speak Italian.

About a year ago, I was able to come off of the meds altogether. It was a miracle, a term that I rarely use.

So I know something of what it is to be debilitated.

If the smell of coffee bothers you, then of course you shouldn’t go; but these places serve other things – tea, for instance. Like you, I live in the UK, and tea is practically a separate food group. LOL

I think they have herbal teas as well, which taste a lot better with a little sweetener added.

In any case, going to places like this, for me and others, can help you to work. And that’s the goal.

To get away from the distractions at home so you can concentrate on your work.

I think it’s called the Title Tag, though it’s for a page, not the site itself.

I don’t have enough experience with the different themes to tell you how to change it in yours, but there are those in this group who would.

If you can get into the HTML, that’s one way; but there ought to be a way that’s much simpler.

You might want to ask the question specifically so that members of the forum will see it.

Jen, the easiest way to write any book is to outline it first.

Doesn’t have to look like the outlines they taught you in school.

List the main things you want to talk about.

Rearrange them if you need to.

Then start adding ideas under each one.

Keep adding ideas until you’ve said what you think you should.

Then clean up the grammar and string it altogether.

I don’t use this app, Norma, but you might want to try RescueTime.

You tell it what you do online that’s good and what isn’t. Then it tracks your activity and gives you a report at the end of the week.

I know that I’m not spending the time the way I want to right now, and so there’s no point in tracking it.

Sean also recommends that for a week, you keep track of what you’ve been doing every 15 minutes or so.

I found this exercise tedious. It got in the way of my work. LOL

But it is worth keeping tabs on it because it can really get away from you.

If you find yourself coming to the end of the day and thinking, “I didn’t do much on the business,” then you’re probably a candidate for a little checking.

    How true that it, Jennifer.

It’s amazing how the most undesirable chores suddenly become attractive when I decide to starting working on the business.

One reason why I think that happens is because we’re not entirely sure what the work we know we need to do looks like.

We can explain it in theory, but when we sit down to do it, we can’t how.

One trick I learned while writing a book was to take the problem I wanted to solve and put it in the form of a question. Not, “What do I want to know?” But something specific to the subject itself.

Then I’d go for a walk.

Usually by the time I’d put the computer in a locker and reached the steps of the library, I knew the answer; but the university town was so nice, I usually went for a walk anyway.

Then I had a different challenge: Remembering the answer for when I got back.
