    You have a lovely rich, “down-home” voice. That makes you easy to listen to. 😉

    Not sure how much this has to do with frames, etc, but I think that your picture and the logo to the right need to be bigger and closer together.

    You’ll need to experiment with the size and distance to see what look the best, but right now they look too small and the white space in-between them seems excessive.

    Hi Susan,

    You’ve probably heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

    What happens is that we become aware of some things, then notice them (to the exclusion of everything else), and then cite them as proof of what we suspected in the first place.

    That’s how you need to look at the personality traits identified in that questionnaire.

    It’s likely that you have certain propensities. You think in this way, and not that one. You prefer on thing over something else, and so on.

    What you must guard against, however, is taking the view that “that’s just how I am.” Because when you do that, what you’re saying is that “I can’t change.” And that’s giving up.

    As a matter of interest, which one did you take that you thought was so descriptive?

    I should also mention The Four Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss.

    Some of the links in it don’t work, but he manages to find abnormal ways to do normal things and gets more done in less time than the rest of us.

    Lots there.

    It’ll take some time to read through all of it.

    One question: Will there be things that came with the software, that will be visible to us, but have no function?

    I’m thinking in particular of the table of users at the bottom. The third column doesn’t appear to do anything.

    I never know for sure if I’m on the right path.

    I’ve been down so-many dead-ends that I feel like I should be a cartographer.

    Getting better, however, at recognizing what won’t work.

    Just last night, I realized this about one of my squeeze pages.

    So now will have to be fixed. And it’s not a five-minute job, either.

    You also have to ask yourself if you have the time to work on more things than the one mentor is giving you to do.

    That you’re in this Community tells me that you probably don’t.

    So what Sean tells you to do, and then when you are making $10K consistently, then maybe you can think about getting other help.

    The thing is that switching mentors or getting another one usually isn’t necessary unless you’re not getting the results you want by doing exactly what the one you have has told you to do.

    And getting a new or additional mentor can be just another BSO, in other words.

    Any new tool has a learning curve.

    So whatever the promises are for speed, you have to take that into consideration.

    My advice is that if you have Camtasia, you like it, and it works for you, then it’s a distraction to think about anything else.

    This is the writing side of me speaking, Willie: You need to change the word “affective” to “effective.”

    It’s quite a common mistake. Most people don’t know the difference. “Affective” is to do with emotions; how you feel. “Effective” is to do with results, as in cause-and-effect.

    Madhushan, you need to change the name/heading of your landing page to something that has meaning for Google.

    Instead of calling it Landing Page, name it something like “Earn $50 a Day!”

    More often than not, I “right-click” on links. That way I can be sure of keeping the original page I was looking at.

    I rely on the page name in the tab to help me find what I want, which is another reason why you need to name your page something meaningful.

    That name is for the benefit of those who visit it and search for it.

    Les, your comments and those of the others in this thread reveal something that’s very significant.

    All of you need to pay attention to this.

    We – that’s you and me – already know what to do. We just have to do it and do it consistently for as long as it takes.

    We have to stop talking about what we’re doing, and just do it.

    All of us know as much as we need to know.

    That’s evidenced by the fact that those who aren’t IM-ers haven’t a clue how it works.

    Have you ever tried to explain it to someone who really doesn’t know anything?

    You practically have to given them a history of the Internet. 😉

    Unless what you’re learning is deepening your understanding of your niche, you need to devote all of your efforts to making the process, which you already know how to do, work.

    That’s more products, more emails, more blog posts, etc.

    That’s so true, Sean.

    In the day job, I do all marketing writing online.

    My desk used to be in the main office area.

    It seems that everyone in this industry is deaf.

    The three Dutch guys that own the company talk so loud you can hear them a half a mile away.

    Sometimes it’s in English, but there’s also a lot of Dutch.

    And the customers are deaf, and so are the guys who do the construction.

    I eventually had to have a chat with the Managing Director to tell him that there was so much noise up there that often all I an do is sit, do nothing, and wait for everyone to leave.

    He was very understanding.

    Now I’m in an office by myself.

    When no one is around, it’s quiet, almost like a library, except there are no books. 🙁

    That changed last week.

    Now there’s all manner of sawing, grinding, and banging going on.

    Thinking of getting noise cancelling headphones, too.

    My interests are very wide, but looking back over life I realized that I kept coming back to writing.

    It’s what I love to do.

    It’s one reason why I reply to so many people in this forum.

    I know that I’m helping each one.

    Ask yourself this: What one thing keeps pulling me back? What do I keep wanting to do?

    Ponder that for a few days.

    If you still don’t have an answer, then PM me, and I’ll give you an exercise.

    If there was a laughing emoji, Kristin, I’d give you one.

    BSO stands for Bright Shiny Object, and most people are attracted to them in one form or another.

    Some people buy shoes or clothes.

    Some buy domain names.

    IM-ers tend to buy all manner of online products: courses, trainings, videos, etc.

    And so my comment about spending time on your business, and not BSOs, was so that those who are predisposed to do that wouldn’t think that, having bought another one or two or ten, that that constituted real work.

    It would be nice to spend time with all those orchestras you mentioned, though. 😉

    I love the banner and the parallax effect.

    You have to really understand your message in many dimensions to pull that off.

    Have you really appeared on CBS, FOX, NBC and ABC?

    One suggestion for now.

    Just below the plug for your book, you have some bullet points.

    You may have a specific reason for repeating the words, “It wasn’t enough . . .”

    If it was me, I’d put that phrase above the section and bold it, change the verb form so that they all were consistent, and then list the bullets without that phrase preceding it.

    Like this:

    It wasn’t enough:

      to work with political leaders . . .
      to own my own home
      to have a wonderful daughter . . .
      to be fueled by the dreams . . .

    [There should be bullets before each of the above phrases, but for some reason they don’t appear on my screen.]

    Same thing with the “I needed” and the “It would be enough” sections that follow.

    I’d be interested to hear what Brendan Burchard taught you. I have his book, High Performance Habits, which I can’t wait to read.

    If it’s any consolation to you, I usually get overtaken by events.

    Example. It’s nearly 11 pm on Saturday night.

    When it got to be 9 pm, I thought, “I’ll just look through the hymns for tomorrow and pick out some stuff to play before and after both services.”

    That took two hours; not 30 minutes.

    (The regular organist sent me an email today to say that she might not feel well enough to play tomorrow.) 😉

    Purpose has to be the desired outcome, but it has to be a step in the process of reaching the goal.

    For example, you’re goal might be to earn $5K this week. Many would say that that’s specific enough. It’s measurable and has a time period fixed to it.

    But if you are faced with 50 ways to do it, and there are multiple paths for each, then that goal is useless.

    So your purpose has to be to complete certain steps that you know will lead to your goal.

    Then when you know what the next step is, you can focus on it.

    You also need to make your Submit button bigger and colorful and get rid of the box that says Download Now.

    The Download Now picture is so prominent that it looks like the button; but when you click on it nothing happens.

    It’s only when you look really closely that you can see the tiny black and white Submit button.

    I used to take a great deal of interest in having a beautiful flower garden and grass.

    I asked an expert one time how to deal with a poor quality lawn.

    He said you should tackle one problem at a time.

    If you’re tackling the moss, then leave everything else until it clears up.

    If you’re concerned about weeds, then focus on that.

    It was good advice for gardens, and it’s good advice for business, too.

    I wrote a monthly newsletter for nearly four years and distributed it through them. (This was a few years ago, so things have changed there.)

    I think I called their tech support and explained how I wanted my newsletter to look.

    They told me to use a template, and then helped me to create one.

    If you’re still using AWeber, then I suggest you call their tech support and have a similar conversation.

    I always found them to be extremely helpful.

    A good question to ask yourself, Malik, is, “What one thing can I do that is most likely to contribute to my bottom line?”

    Email rarely will.

    Unless people contact you directly to discuss buying something from you, like they do with me, email is something that you can leave for later.

    Marketing and product creation are the only two “right” answers.

    Start with those.

    Someone wrote a book called Who Moved My Cheese?, which basically said what you did just now, and it became a bestseller.

    It’s as if no one knew that the market was changing all the time.

    I read that it was 20 minutes to get back to where you started before the interruption.

    On that basis, it would only take two per hour throughout the day for you to get to the end and say, “I didn’t get anything done!”

    But the same thing happens when you (not you, personally) interrupt others.

    If you have a “day job,” then anytime you interrupt someone else, it will take him/her 20 minutes to get back up to speed.

    Something to think about it you’re a manager.

    Well said, Sean.

    One problem that many people have is that they can’t focus on one thing.

    They can’t walk down the street without reading or sending texts.

    Many of them can’t seem to drive unless they’re doing the same thing.

    I’ve seen people sitting in a restaurant together. Instead of talking to each other, all of them have their heads buried in their phones.

    I’ve even read of people sending a text to someone else in the same room, rather than getting up, going over, and actually talking to them.

    This is understandable if you’re in a quiet area or what you have to say is confidential; but I’d be surprised if everyone was having a confidential conversation all the time, or the only time they did this was in a quiet space.

    The simple fact is that most people try to do several things at once.

    And if you can break that habit, and give people your with your undivided attention, then it will make your time with them that much more genuine.

    When it’s time to work, then turn everything off, and focus on work.

    When it’s time to be with your family, then turn off everything that has to do with work.

    As you said, know your boundaries and stick to them.

    Don’t let work bleed into your family time or vice versa.

    I wish I could remember exactly what this guy said, but someone that I met many years ago told me that people buy products.

    He stated it more eloquently than that, but he made the comment because I was trying to sell a service; and his point was that even when people buy a service, they’re buying a product.

    Took me a long time to understand what that meant.
