think about it . . if someone does a broadcast of some kind at linked in or facebook to their contacts . . that’s really a list . . a list hosted at facebook or linkedin.
now, I get that what you “mean” is a subscriber list on an autoresponder format!
And sure, you can get customers when they just happen to land on your website . . .
but realistically, in this day and age, it’s very rare that someone buys the first time they come to your website . . .and without them getting on your list (either YOUR list in an autoresponder you control or by getting onto your facebook or linkedin “list of contacts”
then you miss out on so many, many opportunities to remind people to go to your website and become a subscriber . . .
I just believe very strongly that in today’s world, you really need to be able to contact people who are interested in you some other way than hoping they are somehow in your inbox . . . .
It’s so easy to build a list on facebook or linkedin . . .
but with the new widgets . . . . mailchimp and aweber make it very very easy to get people onto your “list”
you don’t even have to worry about emailing them everyday . . .
just email them if something big happens, like you write a post you want to share!
or you decide to run a sale on your copywriting!
or anything you want to share with people who are interested in you1!

I think that if a person is on one site and they might find something on another site, useful, sure send them.
But for any other reason than that . . . ??

I think a lot of it depends on YOUR audience and HOW you’ve conditioned them . . .
I have days where I do more business than others . . but it’s the same days I focus on more because it’s my own schedule!
And some of my clients have big days that are different from mine . . .
So I think it’s really a matter of studying your own audience and their engagement.
For example, if you sent a daily email each day for 30 days, and then tracked open rates by day of the week, do some days (say, Wed) get more opens than others?
Do certain times of the day get more response for YOU?
And it depends on your niche . . if you talk with most folks on their business email .. . they are more likely to be online 9-5, whereas if you talk with most folks during their off-time, that might mean 6-9 during the week . . .
So use some logic, then try it out, and be sure to keep track of each email and response on a spreadsheet so you can track what’s working.

You know, I think that success in one area doesn’t mean it crowds out other areas.
Not having boundaries is what crowds out other areas.
Success at work, when that work is confined to a normal 8 hours, leaves several hours a day for family.
Success with your family leaves plenty of time for work.
Success in your eating habits leads to an improved lifestyle.
Success working out means you have more energy for family and work.
To me, a lot of this is about boundaries . . .work for x hours . . .
family for y hours . .
and so on (and it doesn’t have to be defined by hours, but by quality)
Keep in mind, success at work DOESN’T have to take everything that you have, as long as you have boundaries, and focus on what’s important, not just on what fills up the time bucket.

my feeling is that if you go with 2 niches, start with one for 6 months, make it profitable FIRST then add the 2nd niche . . .

Keep in mind, you can start a membership with very little or no content, then add content each week or month as you create it live . . you can use a lower price for ‘charter” members – with the understanding that there isn’t much loaded yet, they are getting it live as a bonus for being charter clients . .

How closely related are the 3 sub niches?
Are you seen as an expert in the overall niche, or just each of the 3?
If you are seen as an expert in each of the 3 sub niches but not the overall, I would create 3 – but do them one at a time, focus on one exclusively for 6 months, then once it’s profitable, add the next.

So here’s a thought . . what if it just doesn’t matter?
What if you don’t worry if it works or not . . .just write the sales letter.
If it doesn’t sell, it’s one more product in your arsenal once you DO start getting buyers . . .
It’s like if there’s doubt . . . just do it anyway cause the worst that can happen is if you don’t do anything, you lose . . but if you do something and it doesn’t work out . . you lose . .
but which is a better loss?

Bruce, with the new categories . . . and that can be extended infinitely – that solves that
Kristin, that allows the categories and linking to individual replies . . .
so to all: if we went with A – with extended categories and an updated modern look, and adding upvoting
it will give us the ability to link to individual replies (which I agree is huge, it allows YOUR replies to be shared individually in fb, etc – and once I add signatures (yes, signatures are coming) – then it’s an even bigger deal –
the one drawback is some of the sorting features in B and D . . but I think I might be able to do a little bit of custom programming to make something similar to that happen too . . .

now, some of you bring up 2 key points about b – and that is the ability to see which category more easily
but it doesn’t allow you to link to a single reply, should you want to share it . .
so . . look and feel aside
if we were to have a more fully built – out set of categories –
what if the main page were organized like this:
example with new category sections
so each forum ONLY contained, for example, email campaign questions . . .
and it was easy to navigate like that, but you’d still be able to link to an individual reply 🙂
and keep in mind, I plan to add “thanks” component, also voting component, so the best replies move to the top of each question . . .
and more 🙂just trying to get this category piece down first

June, I personally use wpengine for my host, and they keep the installation itself secure.
But there are many things you can do to keep from uploading plugins that breach security, and I’m going to leave this for someone more expert than I in that.
And also, setting up wordpress . .. I’m guessing there are a few wordpress experts here who will give you some great advice!

Just thinking out loud here, after reading some of the early posts 🙂
So what I’m hearing is that however it’s organized, we need more granulation . . .categories, etc.
So my original thought was these sections:
Ask Anything (with subcategories, I started it general for momentum, so we wouldn’t have 20 categories with few posts each)
Members Offering Help Section
Members Offering Training (like downloads, etc)
And a Section where you can advertise your coaching, products, etc
So 4 sections . . each having a specific way in which they help
And then perhaps in each of those sections, we organize things by topic . . .
But a possible alternative – this is just me thinking out loud, I’m not sure if this would be too noisy . .
but have all the sections organized instead by topic, then have all the helps components under each topic:
for example, an email campaign section
in that section, one could:
ask questions
get help
you could offer help
there could be a place for YOU to post training YOU’VE created on email campaigns
Keep in mind, for those of you who are thinking, ok, I’m not just a member who is going to help in one topic, and I’m building . . .
but perhaps you are very skilled at a topic, say, video marketing, or email campaigns . .
and you are thinking, how can I leverage PreneurPal to find clients, to create a presence . . that’s coming . . .
There will be signatures, a place for you to advertise, etc
But I really want to get the organization right FIRST before rolling all that out!!!

Strategic Business Time (Analog, this is thinking with no devices, then paper to document thoughts (sometimes)
Take action and implement what I thought about in the previous session Time
PreneurPal Time
Any other tidbits that need to happen
Dog walk time (3-5 miles)
Free time
Note there’s no time beside each . . . I generally do each in that order, the dog sometimes demands a walk earlier, so she slots in earlier.
But no time.
Each takes as long as it does, then move to the next.
Key: My time is not defined by an inbox, a social media account (or the inherent feeling of responsibility to reply to social media or emails), instead, I set my day based on what I’ve determined is important and either: a) changes someone’s life b) changes many lives or c) moves my business along (and my business has as it’s primary goal in everything I do, that of changing lives)
So everything in my business is dictated by making those 3 things happen (and of course having the wisdom to charge when appropriate 🙂 ))

One thing I might add is to not be too critical in finding a partner . . the one key you need is someone who is willing to take a little time, see what you are doing – and hold you accountable.
Combined with the Community itself for asking questions about things, and of course getting and finding help . . .
the partner doesn’t exist to meet your every need . .
but instead to be a listener, a seer (like a listener with with seeing eyes) and most importantly, be someone the two of you can check in together each day for accountability (5 mins)
one more thing . . .I know the context of hunting for business relationships online is social media places and free forums and you really have to weed through the frogs . .
Remember this: everyone here is paying just like you are, they want the same thing you do . . and if they are doing all that PLUS speaking up and saying, I want a partner too . . .
You might want to consider just taking it on faith, see how things work out, instead of being overly critical or have a huge list of must-haves for that person!

I have discovered, with today’s wide range of technology, it’s not always about whether a service is good or not – many of them are – it’s more about – how closely does it fit YOUR need and what YOU want to accomplish?
and if there are several that are close, sometimes you just have to make a decision and let go of FOMO

there are themes out there (don’t ask me which ones!)
that can turn each post into basically a short form sales letter (take a look at GKIC’s website, at one time they used something like that)
because with lots of low cost items, you wouldn’t need full sales pages – just bullet points, one pain question, and a payment button
you could have a membership where they get everything in that catalogue for one low price, too
woocommerce I think has one
but there are others, and could probably be done as a plugin
look for ecommerce plugin
then configure it
it might take some digging, but I’ve seen one before

I think some do.
Some don’t.Some don’t mean it.
I agree with Julia . . I think most genuinely want to help, but what you need and what they teach are often different.
one thing I hear a lot is folks buy a course, get stuck, can’t get in touch with the guru, then write him or her off.
But a book is a book, a 1-1 consulting project for 6 months is another.
I also hear of folks buying coaching then the guru disappears.
That’s not a guru.
That’s a person who writes good copy, someone bought and the non-guru disappeared!
I think that it’s important not to focus on finding the liars . .
but instead dig deep and figure out what YOU need and want . . .and find someone to teach THAT to you . . .
Instead of having to depend on some “guru” to tell you what to think 🙂
Of course, you may need direction in your thinking.
But process what someone says, ask several people the same question, then make your own opinion – don’t just blindly rely on someone else’s opinion!

You can influence who chooses to involve themselves with you (optin, buy, etc) by using language that appeals to that gender.
Of course you aren’t excluding the other gender, but you can influence who responds.
What is really happening is that people are responding based on their reaction to your words . . .
so if a woman responds to a testosterone-driven ad . . she may operate more like a male psyche . . .
and if a man responds to a serotonin – driven ad – he may operate more sensitely . . .

Wow! I’m really excited as I read what folks are looking for here . . . and I’m seeing good ideas, I’m seeing excitement about this being a launchpad for YOUR business and helping others . . and this is all very exciting to me!
I am hearing a lot of folks say things that indicate you are ready and willing to give in order to get, and am especially excited when I see folks talking about helping others, and making it their goal to help others!
And I have discovered that although helping others, alone, doesn’t result in income always, it certainly sets the foundation to be able to:
1) Create a trust and respect in YOU so that when it’s time for someone to invest . . . they think of you first
2) It gives you a foundation of trust to create paid options so that you are helping on 2 levels: for free and for a fee.
I hope many others will post what they are looking to get out of this Community . . and if you haven’t, would you?

I agree with both Bruce and Jan . . offer a 5 day challenge, get folks in.
But even there is only one person . . that is the start.
Record what you do, add someone else the next week.
You can start coaching low priced, then raise it as well for future members, to future pricing.
Let the earlier folks who “seed” your coaching program have lowered grandfathered pricing . .

I love the idea of some kind of groups within . . . and we can do that . .
We can set up a separate sub group section, we can do this in the accountability section, we can do it with a new forum within . . .
And in fact is one of the things planned, but you folks have gotten to the idea first!
So I want to confirm . . .we will be adding functionality to do that, but might wait a week or so . . .
would love to see more participation and grouping in the accountability section . . and see some discussion there of the best ways to work together!
All told, GREAT idea – let’s brainstorm the best way to implement it so that it’s transparent yet powerful!

personally, I don’t focus too much on metrics . . .
I want to see lives changed, and I see that when I get emails or reports that that is happening.
of course sales have to happen, so I see that with the daily reports.
New subscribers have to happen , . .
but think about this:
which is better, 20% conversion or $1000 in revenue?
40% conversion or 200 new subscribers?
without context, neither matters
I’ll take 10% conversion with 100 new subs
or 80% conversion but only 5 new subs any day
same with revenue . . . I’d rather a LOWER conversion rate but more happy people
because happy people end up spending more anyhow 🙂
and that’s not reflected in a one-time conversion rate

I think a lot depends on what YOU want to happen . . .
what do YOU want to be your first seller . . . a membership or a training?
which might convert better and be more useful?
think about this:
if it’s a mostly-training membership – it might be most useful on day 1 or day 10
but . .
if it’s a mostly – connection membership . . . you might need to develop trust by waiting until someone has bought 1-2 times (or at least had the opportunity) – and that might be 15-30 days down the road.
So I think – much as many of the comments above –
that it depends on what you want to accomplish AND what the membership does

Ok, I gotta jump in here . . .
by the way, I’m reading alot of these but not commenting on all . . .I am loving the preneurs helping preneurs phenomenon that’s going on here!
however . . I feel compelled . . .
I notice it seems there are strong opinions here . . things like, statistics show, having a guarantee increases . . . etc
My experience with guarantees is that . . . you really should test to know if a guarantee makes your conversion rate go UP
or . . DOWN for YOUR offer . . .
of course, if you really believe in writing guarantee copy and you don’t care if it increases or decreases conversion . . then it’s irrelevant to you . . do what you believe!
but . . if you are looking for them to increase or decrease conversion . .. test!
My own experience: putting a guarantee on my own sales pages doesn’t change conversion rate.
my theory: guarantees theoretically increase trust
but since I sell primarily (and almost ONLY) to subscribers who already trust me . . .I don’t have to state a guarantee.
keep in mind, just because you don’t state it doesn’t mean you don’t have one .. . .
if a client bought a training from you, then wrote you and told you it didn’t work for her and why . . . would you refund it, guarantee or not???
